People who can't control their legs
I don't know of a better title for this nor the actual name of the condition (if u can call it that)... anyways, here goes
[rant]
I had a calculus exam at 9 AM this morning, which by my watch.. its early (I usually don't wake up til 10 or 11), but its an exam and I had no choice so I got up, went to school and read over some notes then came exam time.
When I sat down, I was on the end seat of a long table. These aren't ordinary long tables. I dunno which universities have them or not, but they have the moving seats attached to the table, so to sit down, you'd turn the seat, sit in it and the turn it so u're facing the front and can write on the table.
This is a purely multiple choice exam with ample amount of space on the test booklet to do out our solutions since its for Calculus. So, then the guy sat down along the same table as me and we fill in our scantron with our name, course code and all that jazz you do before the exam, then I feel this sudden vibration. It felt like it was coming from behind me, and that the person was erasing really hard for some odd reason (or masturbating if u think that way because that movement was kind of violent). I thought it'd stop since you don't go on forever erasing really hard. The vibration constant starts and stops and starts and stops, and it could possibly be him erasing really hard because there is A LOT of room on that test booklet.
I gave a quick glance around so the proctor doesn't get suspicious, and there he is moving his feet up and down and vibrating the entire friggin table. I couldn't concentrate on the exam but I didn't wanna risk getting thrown out of the exam room for talking so I just sucked it up. He was doing it until the guy on the other side of him couldn't take it anymore and told him to stop, but JESUS CHRIST!!! That was so damn annoying. I went into the exam perfectly fine and I had most of these questions down fairly well, but I still came out with a headache cuz of his apparently "uncontrollable" leg.
I remember if I did that when I were younger, my parents would yell at or hit me. I wish he had parents like that. I really really hate people who shake their legs/move them up and down because it really bothers the hell out of me if I can feel it (sometimes, even when I just see it)

Why not just speak up earlier?
I mean i sympathize and have been in similar situations, but i think the proctor would be happy to say something on your behalf if you had spoken up right away?
Life is too short to NOT say anything and then be upset after the fact.

If it bothered you that much, you should've mentioned something like that other guy. The squeaky wheel gets the oil

Maybe he has restless leg syndrome.
Or a catchy beat running through his head.

I do that from time to time. I guess I'm the Anti-Christ. Mind you in testing situations or when on benches where the vibrations can be felt like others I usually control myself.

I would have, if I thought it was going to be a problem before the start of the exam, but because I thought it was going to stop, it didn't.... then the exam starts and if I say anything, I get a risk of getting tossed out, and the guy is still going. But I'll definitely take notice before the exam starts the next time around, just in case it happens again.
Thanks.

Wow, 9am? I'd already been working for 2.5 hours. You're such a trooper for getting up soooooo early.

I too hated this leg shaking syndrome when others did it... like on a long bench where it bothers the hell out of you. That was until I experienced it first hand... It was strange... you can't really do anything to stop it since it seems to be a muscular reflex... like a twitch. I find this happens more so for people that don't put their feet flat on the ground and keep their leg raised with their toes. For me, I have to keep my feet flat on the ground our else it starts to shake.... not the easiest thing to do when your short and some chairs/benches are high

But I'm guessing he's on eastern time so you'd only been working for half an hour at that point, slacker.

I notice that when I'm concentrating on a task, my left leg starts pistoning. The harder the task, the faster it goes.

Hmmm, I wonder if I have this RLS thing. When I started reading this thread I was twitching without even realizing it. My wife has been getting pissed at me lately for randomly kicking the bed through the night, and every once in a while my whole body jerks and wakes me up. It might explain some of my exhaustion, despite making efforts to go to bed at reasonable times. Going to have to look into this more.

I have "jimmy leg". Like BA mentioned, I won't even realize I'm doing it most of the time. I'll sit with my feet flat, but after a while that doesn't feel right and I move them under the chair a bit. Next thing I know, they are bouncing.

I did this in a three hour history exam and university once. Just 20 minutes in too.
It was hilariously awful. So tough trying to conceal squealing laughter while the people within a 20 ft radius try not to pass out. An exam is like an elevator, no place to run.
