I've decided to throw up this post to get some recommendations.
I'm kind of tired of the whole rock music things, probably because I'm old. Oh sure I still listen to the classics and stuff, but to me its all pretty repetitive.
But I'm looking for recommendations on some blues artists that I can check out and get into. I'd prefer some of the heavier guitar influenced stuff if possible.

Ronnie Earl ... really good electric blues guitar.
Otis Taylor, John Lee Hooker, Big Bill Broonzy, Sleepy John Estes, Watermelon Slim, Jimmy Vaughn & Omar Kent Dykes (CD named Jimmy Reed Highway) Omar & The Howlers, Howlin' Wolf, Roy Rogers and Norton Buffalo, Alvin Lee, Mike Bloomfield, Delbert McClinton, Albert King, Eric Clapton, Kelly Joe Phelps, Ronnie Hayward, Luther Allison, Albert Cummings, Rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Mississippi Freddie McDowell, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, ...
Kenny Wayne Shepherd is pretty good for contemporary blues-rock. I also like Amos Garrett for Canadian blues-rock. Saw him a couple times at the King Eddy.
Reverend Ron is such a cool guy, you could just call him up while he's doing his show and ask him this very question and no doubt he would love to give you his recommendations.

Seconded. Legends! They did the music for the Assassination of Jesse James and Nick Cave has a great little cameo as the saloon singer.
More folky, but go listen to Ben Harper and the Blind Boys of Alabama
That is a great disc, I prefer his newest album though.
Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals - Lifeline
The poor audio quality of youtube hardly does any song justice, but this will give you a taste of it.

Loved Omar and the Howlers. They opened for the Fab TBirds way back when, and in my (and others) opinion, they blew away the T Birds.
You need look no further than Amos Garrett who lives in High River. He has various CD's available and does shows in and around the Calgary area. He will be leaving shortly on a tour overseas though. He has played with the best and plays slide without the slide.
Guitar Player Magazine calls Amos "one of the most lyrical and original guitarists today and his single note solos and melodic figures are so distinctive that it is virtually impossible to mistake them for anyone else's."
"Amos Garrett plays better one-handed and on an off-night than most guitar players put together," it has also been said. Yet, it is fair to say he is "not famous." But, as an extraordinary studio musician, he is known by a circle of seasoned artists. He performed with Stevie Wonder, Chet Akins, Maria Muldaur, Bonnie Raitt, Todd Rundgren, and Emmylou Harris. In the early 70's he was a guitarist for the Paul Butterfield Band."

How about the Robert Cray Band?
Robert Cray is very talented, no argument, but for some reason he just doesn't work for me. BB King and Muddy Waters are the same ... both are unquestionably great bluesmen, but for some reason just don't hit the right spot with me. I like certain songs by each of them, but not their body of work as a whole.
Omar's a lot of fun for sure ... check out that one I mentioned above that he does with Jimmy Vaughan ... it's a relatively new release. Megatunes carries it. Actually, if you're looking for new blues suggestions, Herb at Megatunes really knows his stuff. Tell him what sort of thing you like and he'll make a few suggestions. He's more than happy to play stuff before you buy too ... just tell him his Drumheller customer referred you to him.
Thanks to all for the ideas, I'm going to check these out. Like I said, the usual music is really boring the crap out of me right now, and I want something a little more rootsy
