Default Tax Assessment Map

The new Tax Assessment map showing what areas have been deemed to increase/decrease is up.

http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...map/index.html

Woohoo - down 10%! Unfortunately, the tax formula seems to be so arcane (my assessed value went up last year, yet my taxes went down) I have no idea if this will actually translate to a lower monthly payment.

I'm up > 10%

I thought last year's assessment was low - I just looked at last year's assessment looking at MLS right now, the lowest listing is $60K higher than that assessment.

Also up 5-10%. I was down last year, so I'm probably due for a bump.

I'm attached to the house beside me (exact same floor plan on both sides), and my neighbor sold his place for less than what the assessed value was. Now it says I might get a 5% increase? WTF???

Man, this city gets on my nerves sometimes.

Those of you who's rates are going down- what kind of increase/decrease did you get last year?

For example, if you were hit with a 20% increase last year, I can see it being fair that you get a 10% decrease this year.

I would think that would be a pretty easy appeal to win.

ROFL... that just means your house went up less percentage in value then the majority of other people in the city...

It's possible for your house value to DROP, and you see a property tax increase.. The city is still gonna get their money, you're share just changed... That being said.. if mine goes up 20/month... I know who to blame!

*edit*
CRAP!!!!... I'm in the >=10% area
