When are we going to stop letting extremist muslim savagery off the hook by calling it "cultural differences" and start calling a spade a spade?

This seems perfectly reasonable.

You shouldn't have to. All you should have is the basic concept of being a compassionate and reasonable human being. Religion seems to do a marvelous job of killing that in a person.

Well duh, you're clearly inciting religious hatred.
The first thing I said when I read about this was, 'How many men are named Muhammad? Why is that not blasphemous?'
I'd bet this is more political than religious at the heart of it. Another move to try and keep Westerners from wanting to work or travel there and thus limit any influence.

What are you guys talking about?^^
No one has said anything about this being "cultural differences" or said anything remotely PC, and you're already complaining about that.

I was more or less implying that the western world tip-toes around incidents like these. We allow these countries to impose unjust religious laws against citizens of free countries.. We just ask very nicely if they would please release them after they have been tortured or threatened with death..

Well clearly this is dumb, but calling 15 days in the clink for breaking the law "extremist muslim savagery" is just a little bit over the top.
I do love the whole "we are a politically correct society, we can't say anything about this" angle though. Meanwhile, every western media outlet in the world is reporting this story and the general tone is not exactly smiles and sunshine, near as I can tell.
I wonder if any of y'all can find an article that excuses or justifies this action? Since we are so hopelessly politically correct and afraid of offending anyone, that kind of article must be pretty easy to find.

Judging a group of people numbering over 1 billion based on the acts of a few is just as ludicrous. It would be like judging westerners based on Paris Hilton or George Bush. It happens, I am sure... but you can see how misinformed it would be.

I am sorry, but this teacher should know better. She is teaching in a foreign country, a country where many are of the Muslim faith, and in that faith, Muhammad has great significance. When you are living in a foreign country, better you educate yourself first about the religion and culture in that country. And it should be the same for anyone travelling in a foreign country.
While we might think the sentence is harsh, is outdated, that it is backward and to the nth degree in severity, this is their country. If we try to impose our will and our beliefs on others in their own country, then we should be prepared for some consequences.
Now I do not equate what this teacher did in any way to the poor woman who was gang raped and then was sentenced to over a hundred lashes. I equate what this teacher did with stupidity.

well the problem is that those "few" have way too much power. from Sudan to Saudi Arabia to Iran, it's all wacko fundamentalists in charge and that's just the tip of the iceberg. if they were really in the minority i think the majority would opt for change and put more moderate leaders in charge don't you think?

Well if they were the majority, then why the heck are we even bothering to help the average Muslims in Afghanistan? Perhaps we should just leave them on their own so they can put moderate leaders in themselves...
As in most cases, the powerful people in a dictator ship are not the majority.
