Default Best desktop Dell deal right now?

My dad is buying a PC ...

in his 60s, email, internet, the odd powerpoint show from an email attachment, no massive needs. Cost is important to him.

Thoughts?

Thanks

No I don't ...

he just tabbed Dell as his direction, and I told him to hold off until I put it on the board for thoughts.

Does he require the desktop immediately? If you can hold out til boxing day, I'm sure there will be awesome sales. Especially on overstocked entry level PCs they need to get rid of.

That's true.

A question: How much does Vista vs. XP matter for you? Vista requires a better computer than XP does.

Yeah get XP if you can.

Dell is having their 12 days of deals starting on monday, so check redflagdeals.com each day to see what the deal is; there's bound to be a few inexpensive computers in there!

What is the problem with Vista? I have it on my new laptop and it hasn't bothered me at all

Boxing Day sales off of the Dell website you mean or in stores?

Vista just requires more resources than XP does for the same level of performance, so the lower end a PC XP will run better.

Boxing day I think it's more website.

Their days of deals have started today, no computers yet:

No problem with Vista if compatability with old software and hardware is not an issue. Most people looking for an entry lvl PC won't have too much old software to worry about, and any old hardware (ie printers, scanners etc.) can be replaced with new stuff for less then the cost of a fancy calculator...
