I've looked into a few like LA Weightloss and Herbal Magic, and seems that there is one extremely unhappy customer for every happy one. Might stay away from those. The WW online seems like the best one to me as well.

I don't like weight watchers as they want to sell you their own food...
My wife did LA Weight Loss and was very very happy with it. They really spent a lot of time with her and helped instruct on the right things to eat, all the meals are with real food from a grocery store. She lost her target weight easily, she said she didn't even feel she was on a diet. I've spoken with a few other ones that have the same feedback. It could depend on which office you go to as well, the NE one on 32nd is the one she's gone to.
Herbal Magic I'd be skeptical about, anything that promotes a special pill.. likely it's just a low calorie diet combined with education and coaching.
Dr. B will get very fast results (5lbs a week or more), but is quite expensive. And it's SUPER low calorie (like 850 a day).

There is no easy fix... trust me on that, I have lost quite a bit of fat over the past year or so and really the only correct answer to this question is will power and exercise... cut back on junk foods (I won't say stop - because well that is unreasonable to expect and you will fall back into old habits really quick). But pay 30-40 dollars for a gym membership (if you are in Calgary the UofC and Mount Royal College both have good gyms) and stick to it... there are no quick fixes as cliche as that may sound.

Heh, can't cheat thermodynamics.. if you put in more calories than you burn, you gain, if you burn more than you take in, you lose, easy as that.

Do Body for Life. Its a great all around program, and with a little bit of planning its not that hard. You will feel great on that plan as well, because you eat a lot and get a lot of exercise.

Having tried both WW and Herbal Magic, I'd say the WW at least is slightly more the thing if you don't feel you need a lot of guidance or hand-holding. The WW program(s) are fairly flexible and allow you to eat whatever you want within certain parameters but they don't make you buy special food or supplements to do the program. HM on the other side, feels like a total cash grab and is a program that seems easily to be made for people to yo-yo diet on as you spend nothing but $$$ on their supplements and accessories, then are forced to go in 3x a week (5x/wk at the beginning for 2wks) while they weigh you and plan out what you should be eating. Not something I'd recommend if you don't like being treated like a money-oozing idiot.

If it was that easy, no one would be overweight. Some people need more help and guidance than others.
Being judgemental like that doesn't help anyone, most of all the people trying to lose the weight. Try being supportive rather than knock them down.

It pretty much is that easy. As an earlier poster said, if you take in more calories than your burn youll gain weight. If you burn more calories than you take in, you will lose weight.
A lot of people do need help in getting proper info since there is a lot of wrong and incomplete info out there. A lot of people think theyre eating healthy but couldnt read a food label to save their lives and are in fact eating poorly. Samething for excercise, a bit of professional advice may help out immensely in getting a good routine for your current physical state.
But with all that said, you dont need any special foods or pills or magic supplements. And you dont need a personal trainer 5 days a week.
Most people who are overweight have no one to blame but themselves. Why does everyone have sympathy for someone overweight who stuffs their face and sits around all day but has no sympathy for a drunk or addict and use the reasoning that they stuck the needle in their own arm or decide to drink.

No the easiest way is doing nothing about it and continuing to live an unhealthy life style. Some people have the will power to do it on their own. Others might need to do something else to make it click in their mind to do so. Likely comes down to peoples different personality types.
Weight loss is an industry that makes it's money based on peoples failure. Certainly many people fail to maintain the committment required to win the battle over the long term. Losing the weight is one thing, keeping it off is another. Depending on the person something like Weight Watchers that gives you the choice to continue attending after you reach your target weight might be a good option. My wife wants to try it out here so I guess we'll see how it goes. No matter what I try I can't convince her to make better dietary choices. So maybe if it's not me telling her that French Fries are bad for you and you should just eat a sweet potatoe with a piece of chicken maybe she'll listen LOL.

I chafe more at being treated like an imbecile than at the thought of the $$ (I mean seriously, if you quit eating out and other bad habits that's where the money comes from) but maybe it's just me - Sheila Copps, Gord Stellick AND Jenna can't all be wrong.
