Anyone else need a career change?
I just saw on the news that from the start of 2008 to about 10:30 this morning, most CEO's have now made as much as the average Canadian will in one year (approx 39k).

I'm almost ready to quit my job after today. February is going to be an interesting month because that's when I'm supposed to get my raise. If it doesn't match up to the increased workload and stress I've been taking on lately, I'm out of here.

Meh, thats nothing. Stan O'Neal got $160 million for quiting his job after losing billions of dollars (including a few victims here who do bear some ML scars) last year.

Getting paid to do work... vs getting paid more doing noting. The latter is a career I want.

If I don't get my bonus as was promised months ago, I'll be back out on the street selling myself for crack again like '04. I don't work for the enjoyment.
Oh yah, and more on topic - CEO and upper management compensation is a joke. These guys are employees, not owners - they take no risks. As far as the fiction that "the market sets the salaries", that's an even bigger joke - these guys sit on multiple boards of directors and its all a big ol' boys (and now girls) club - I bring you in at an outrageous salary today, and later on when you get the chance, you return the favour for me.
Fat happy *******s. I hate 'em, and not because they are rich (so spare me the envy talk), but because every big company I've worked for is infested with them, and most of them are self-important idiots who couldn't run a convenience store night shift if they didn't have their "networking" skills and briefcases full of bafflegab.
For a good look at how big companies are really run, pick up "Conspiracy of Fools", which is about the Enron debacle. Only difference between Enron and a lot of other big companies is that instead of being just greedy, the main players were stupidly greedy.

Yeah, apparently the yearly average for CEO's is only about $8.5 mil. Maybe we should take up a collection to help them out...

How much of nothing does one have to do in order to get 8.5 mil a year

Must be nice to make that kind of dough. I would personally say anything over $50-60k is luxury, but that's just me.

Yup - just you.
I remember when I got out of university almost 20 years ago, and thirty thousand a year was a unbelievable fortune. There was no way that I could spend that much in a year.
But I sure managed to drink a large majority of it.

Most CEO salaries are "only" a couple hundred thousand. The millions are made up from options, which are dictated purely by how the stock of the massive company they run performs. Completely justified.
