BC father robbed of $1.50 in stabbing incident

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/cbc/07121...er_bc_stabbing

VANCOUVER -

The Vernon, B.C., resident is recovering from multiple stab wounds he received when he was confronted by a group of young men last Friday and ordered to hand over the $1.50 in change he had in his pocket.

Semeniuk said his attackers ran off after he gave them change out of his pants pocket.

He suffered a cut liver, a punctured lung and three stab wounds to his back.

At the local soup kitchen, one resident said the incident makes matters worse for a man who has fallen on hard times.

"I know he's a hard worker, someone always looking for work to support his boys," said Andrew Yo, a resident of the Upper Room Mission.

All stabbings are bad but this one is really sad. Mr. Semeniuk wasn't very well off to begin with and these 6 guys attack/stab him for $1.50? It's pathetic and disgusting. The victim seems like a great dad (even though he isn't well off) and seems to care alot about his boys. I really hope they catch the people who did this.

Not to sound callous or anything, but is it really any worse because the theives only got $1.50 instead of $150 or $1500? They would have had no idea how much money he would have had.

It is funny when the robbery only nets a few bucks. The spin that is tossed on to make it sound like the robber knew that the victim only had $1.50 but proceeded to rob anyway.

On a side note, would it be poor form to make some kind of Vancouver/culture remark?

If this happened in Vernon, somehow I'm not surprised. Anyone else ever been there?

In high school some guy asked a friend of mine for a quarter. When she refused, the guy pulled a knife on her.

High school... good times.

well i grew up in that area, and i don't see anything that makes Vernon any worse than other cities of it's size. if you want to rag on a BC town for having lots of crime, you may want to look at Cranbrook first
