Ha Ha stupid driver!
How would you like a $100,000 insurance premium?
http://www.canada.com/edmontonjourna...a34e50&k=47030
Dumbass kid from Edmonton got that after having ten speeding convictions and three accidents by age 19. Hopefully ICBC gives him a rude awakening when he gets to BC, but I doubt it.
His mom's whining in this story is great...

"Got his first car at 16". I never got a car when I was 16, in fact, I didn't get a car until I could buy my own. Stupid parents, take the damn car away!

That arrogant kid on Canada's Worst Driver should be slapped with this...after stupidly boasting on TV that he reguarily tells cops that catch him for speeding that he's rushing to an exam for his own police training.
And then basically still acting like a jackass the entire show.

So wait...this 19 year old kid (or more likely his mom) was already paying $15,600 per year on car insurance, and that didn't stop him from driving? Oy. Stupid, stupid parents.

Way to hold your son accountable for his behaviour, Mom. I wonder how he developed the sense of entitlement that would see a driver act the way he seems to?

Did you see the finale last night? The girl was bad, but those 2 dudes were frightening. One of them lives in Calgary...I feel like I should wear a helmet just to drive around the city.

I had my first car @ 16, bought it myself. You can just imagine what a 1982 Escort GT for $900 looked like

If ICBC is anything like Manitoba, they won't insure him.
When I was in Winnipeg; the first portion of your insurance was included in your Driver's Licence. So everybody pays the same for insurance, but your DL was what cost you. I knew of friends who paid 1000's per year for their license.
I can see him getting ICBC under a parent's name, and keeping his Alberta license. Until he has another crash, and then he will be screwed for life.
One would think that the 1300 per month he currently pays would be enough to make him think "maybe I should slow down."

Who else thinks 100k+ insurance rates should be a little more widespread, especially for routine drunk drivers?

More proof that it needs to be harder to get a liscence

Agreed.. But I'd just rather imprison ones who can't get the hint..
Canada's worst drivers is the most infuriating program.. I honestly cannot sit through an entire episode without getting some long distance road rage.. Those people are morons, they should be locked in padded cells or have a bus pass tattooed to their forehead..

I'm 19, and I haven't been able to drive yet, because my eyesight is so bad (I'm awaiting a cornea transplant). After hearing about morons like this being on the roads, I'm not sure I want to!

I love this part:

She calculated that her son, Janson Towers, would have to work full-time all year and earn $55 per hour just to pay his auto insurance premium.

Okay, I doubt at 19 he has any skills that are worth $55/hour to anyone. Especially seeing as how he cant even figure out a simple thing like driving...

Agreed. This D-Bag should not be allowed on the road, even if he pays 100k to do it.

Especially since you know several of these types will be on the road driving without any insurance.

I started driving at 16 years old, on my parents dime, and I don't have any accidents or tickets. That's not the reason he is a dangerous driver.
That being said, I don't want this guy on the road next to me. I also don't want the guy on Canada's Worst Driver next to me either, but that is what you have on a day-to-day basis when you drive.
I do think it's unfair to punish all young male drivers because some of them are dangerous. I don't like how they play the odds that just because a friend of mine is dangerous, I should have to pay higher premiums, BUT in this case, I think the change in premium might be a little excessive. I'd have to know exactly how big the speeding tickets were, because they must be huge.

Routine drunk drivers should have no license to begin with. In fact, if it were up to me, I'd suspend anyone for life after their 2nd drunk driving offense.

I wonder how many people he will kill before he does himself in, or they finally take away his license?

I'm 28, married, and have 12 years of clean driving history, so my auto insurance premiums aren't that pricey, but I was always annoyed that young single males who are safe drivers are unfairly punished because of statistics that show their peers are more likely to drive recklessly than married females.
I recall reading a report a few years ago about how the California State Highway Patrol did an analysis of their data and discovered that black and latino males accounted for a disproportionate number of traffic offenses. Their response was to develop a safe driving program specifically targeted to reach those ethnic groups.
That's all well and good, but if those groups are statistically worse drivers, why aren't they charged a higher insurance premium than white males, who, based on the data, are safer drivers on average? Obviously if the insurance companies were to do that, they'd be accused of discriminatory racist practices and subjected to all kinds of bad publicity...yet they can continue to discriminate against unmarried males (of all ethnic groups) and nobody complains?
