Default Vancouver Island Golf Vacation - anybody golfed there?

My wife and I have September 5 to September 13 booked off for vacation.

We are seriously considering heading to the island for a little golf and R&R.

There is this golf package available where you get to play 6 golf courses in 6 days (6 nights accomodation):

VANCOUVER ISLAND GOLF TRAIL
6 Nights and 6 Rounds of Golf

Rounds of golf at your choice of six of the following courses:

- Arbutus Ridge Golf & Country Club (Victoria area)
- Bear Mountain Golf & Country Club (Victoria area)
- Olympic View Golf Club (Victoria area)

- Cowichan Golf & Country Club (Cowichan Valley - halfway between Victoria and Nanaimo)
- Duncan Meadows Golf & Country Club (Cowichan Valley- halfway between Victoria and Nanaimo)

- Fairwinds Golf Club (Halfway between Nanaimo and Parksville)
- Morningstar Championship Golf Club (Parksville area)
- Pheasant Glen Golf Resort (Parksville area)

- Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community (Comox Valley)
- Storey Creek Golf Club (Campbell River area)

Choose 2 nights in 3 of the following regions:

- Victoria
- The Cowichan Valley
- Parksville and Qualicum Beach
- The North Island (Courtney / Comox / Campbell River areas)

I'm thinking about staying 2 nights in Victoria and playing the Bear Mountain and Olympic courses, staying 2 nights in Parksville and playing the Fairwinds and Morningstar courses, and staying 2 nights Courtney or Campbell River and playing the Crown Isle and Storey Creek courses.

I've never played on these or any of the courses available. Any suggestions of nicer courses than what I've chosen?

Bear Mountain is amazing... one of my friends works there as a pro. It is a must go to if you're heading out to the island.

I've golfed Arthritis Ridge, Cowichan GCC, and Drunken Meadows, all are good courses. Arbutus Ridge has lots of houses along it, the other two are parkland-style courses. Pretty much any Vancouver Island course is good, they get the weather for great course conditions. A nice thing is the pace, usually the courses aren't as busy as Calgary.

Bear Mountain would be at the top of my list, personally. It didn't exist when I lived there.

I think your choice of stopovers is good. Cowichan Valley (Duncan) would be at the last of those choices, the other areas are more touristy. The only other consideration is that weather might be worse in Campbell River, but in September you should be ok. Also, if you like fishing, September is pretty primetime to get out at Campbell River.

My parents live on the second hole at Morningstar. Don't hit their house, it's the green one.

Morningstar is good, and I've been to Pheasant Glen also, which is pretty good.

Olympic View, and Bear Mountain I've always wanted to go to. Olympic View has the hole with a waterfall behind it.

Don't go in April or May........Canuck players overcrowd the courses.

I've played quite a bit of golf on Vancouver Island, mostly the mid to northern parts, so I feel I can chime in on those.

Fairwinds - I've only played it once, from what I remember it was a good course. Some terrific views if I remember correctly.

Morningstar - the front nine is among my favorites. The back nine is not as good, in my opinion - it gets a little too residential. Hole 12 is among the most frustrating tee shots I've ever hit.

Pheasant Glen - They've done considerable work on the course since I last played there, so I can't really comment on it.

Crown Isle - One of my favorites on the island, I don't think you can go too wrong with this one.

Storey Creek - A fun course, but you're going to need a lot of extra balls if you don't hit it consistently straight.

Enjoy your trip!

Cowichan Valley?
YUK! I wouldn't bury a dead horse there! There's a reason they call Duncan-Drunken.
And that's coming from someone who is from Nanaimo!
What a freakin' hole!
