Default Discovery Channel - "Superhumans"

Any one else ever watch this show? First time watching it today, and wow, pretty cool stuff.

Basically, the show goes around the world looking for "savants" or basically, as the show describes, people with extraordinary skills.

For example, right now, they're testing a guy by sitting him in front of a screen that flashes a bunch of blue dots on a white background for a second. Each time, he says the number of dots he saw on the screen and gets it correct. 148, 245, 532. Right every time.

Another girl they looked at saw colours when she heard sound. For example, rain drops hitting a coffee table would have different colours (blue, red, etc.) and a dog's bark would have a different colour as well. She also tasted different flavours in her mouth according to tone. Can't remember what specifically, but something like a "2nd Minor" would taste bitter, a "6th Major" would be "creamy", etc. Black squares also appear in her vision when she goes to a club and hears music with deep bass.

Another guy when submerged in cold water that a normal human would find extremely painful after 7 minutes, had no physical reaction other than his heart rate dropping. In fact, his "self thermometer" adjusted his body temperature and raised it after a while.

Crazy stuff!!

I was a big fan of that old tv show "That's Incredible" and "Unsolved Mysteries" I remember one episode had a story of a small 6 inch human body that was found wraped up in a cave and it was later stolen from a museum.
Will this "SuperHumans" program be available online somewhere?

Okay, that guy who can resist extreme cold temperature is now jogging barefoot in nothing but his underwear in -14 degree weather on snow-covered ground. So far, he's run 18 kms in 2 hours and he feels no pain. The medical team is worried he might get permanent frost bite damage to his toes, but he feels no pain at all!! WDF!

Yeah, but all real people.

Another guy is the human math machine. Just went on a live radio program in Australia and the host asked him without prior knowledge obviously, to go through the powers of 83 until the host asks him to stop.

He got them all correct until some thing ridiculous like in the billion trillion range and the host asked him to stop.

Cool thing about this math guy is, he failed math as a young guy in school. He went from not understanding or being good at math at all, to the next day -- literally over night according to him -- being able to do any calculation with ridiculous speed.

This is sweet.

don't forget about the guy born without eyes who can paint in depth perception better than most people who can see. it was nuts watching him paint a picture with his fingers and nailing even small details of objects and landscapes he has never seen. he figures out all the angles and distances simply with touch

I saw something similiar about savants.

One guy was a janitor at a large chain store. He claims to have gained his mental powers when he was hit in the head with a baseball at age ten.

Ever since then if you give him a year and a date, he can automatically remember what day of the week that date fell on and what the weather was like. Occasionally he can remember other details too, for instance September 27th, 1975, It was a Saturday, sunny, about 90 degrees and he watched a basketball game on TV with a friemd and they ordered pizza.

Mind blowing stuff.

What about that blind kid who uses sonar to navigate around objects? He's the real Dare Devil.

I wonder how many kids hit themselves over the head with something after seeing this. I know I would've back when I was 10 years old if I thought there was a chance I'd get powers!

What?! I thought Hero's was a reality show

LOL

I have this show PVR'd right now but haven't had time to watch it, glad to hear it is actually good I was worried it would be far fetched or "stupid" abilities. But one I saw quickly was someone who could taste music?

the numbers guy did the same thing on this show. they asked him to list the years that a specific date (September 20 or something like that) fell on a Thursday between 1930 and 2030. he then rattled off each year without making a single mistake

That was definetly a really cool show. The Savant guy was on the radio show, and they asked him to start giving the results of 83 to the power of 2, then 3, and so on. Just wow. I think they stopped him at 83 to the power of 9, and the number was over a billion, trillions! (He even admitted he had no idea what the word for a number that large was). And he did it all in his head, on the spot. Crazy.

I can make farting noises with my hands.

That's pretty "super" IMO.

I watched this show too yesterday. The guy running in shorts and nothing else in Lapland was amazing. I can't believe he didn't lose his toes.

The blind artist was similarly amazing.

Great show, makes you wonder how the human race will look 100 years from now with the impending genetic engineering for humans.

Gattaca anyone?
