Kings Add Goaltending Depth

Kings newest Goaltender - Curtis Joseph

Los Angeles, CA - The Kings announced today the acquisition of Goaltender Curtis Joseph from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Clarkson, Koistinen and Gistedt. A press conference was held at the Mansion where GM Sra had the following to say in regards to the move. "Well we gave up a lot of youthful players in the deal but we are hoping Cujo can spell Thomas for a while. We feel his experience will be invaluable the other players in the organization and he has expressed interest previously in playing for the Kings." said GM Sra. "We have confidence in his abilities to solidify the backup job for the remainder of the season".

Note - It is believed Curtis Joseph will be used in next few games in order to give Thomas a full rest in his Hyperbaric Chamber. An undisclosed amount of cash was also sent to Los Angeles in the completion of this deal.

Nice move for the Kings here, Joseph is a huge cap hit, but is still a very useful goalie for this season if you can absorb the contract which the Kings can with Havlat out.

Yeah, the Kings needed to bring in someone to spell Thomas. Really I'm amazed at how many teams have let their starter fall to low CON ratings before we even get 20 games into the season.

They give up a few assets to do so...but Clarkson is a run of the mill 4th liner who'll maybe be a 70OV player with a poor DI rating, Gisteadt....who knows could be Herik Lundquist, could be Hardy Astrom, it will take years to get the final answer on this one. Ville Koistenen...well he'll be back in the AHL when Shea Weber comes back. He's been okay, but he's 25 and really to expect him to become anything more than a #5 defenceman would be pushing it. So in the end the Kings don't really give up a whole heck of a lot to get a guy who'll help them out a lot this year if they really want to make a go for it. Although...they probably could have won Belfour with this package six weeks ago and been able to avoid getting Thomas to his current CON rating.

Good move for both teams here though. Heffner and Jimmy better keep tabs on their viagra supply though...Cujo might be helping himself to the company supplies.

Cujo wasn't doing us a whole lot of good in the AHL and we didn't have the cap space to bring him up. We may well have gotten more later in the season if injuries cropped up, we are pleased to move him and bring in some young guys. It's hard to say if any of those guys will pan out but we won't miss Cujo and his salary. We do, however, wish him the best of luck and he will definitely help out in LA.

Yep, solid move. Will take a few dollars to call him up from the minors....

The breakdown, by Syl, of the players the Avs get in this deal is exactly how I looked at them. Obviously Jimmy made calls about a certain Jet goalie but I am not in a position to get marginal players in return for any asset I have.

Good deal for both teams.
