Hurricanes acquire Miller for Brent
Raleigh, NC – Carolina Hurricanes General Manager Hanna Sniper announced today (November 21) the acquisition of centre Kip Miller from the Dallas Stars in exchange for Tim Brent and a 4th round pick in the 2005 Draft.
"Kip is a veteran who is capable of playing a three forward positions," said Hanna. "He brings leadership, character and a play making ability to our team and is exactly what we were looking to add to our line-up. We’re excited to add his anything for the team approach to our line-up and hopefully ignite some of our snipers."
Miller played in 13 games with the Dallas Stars this season posting 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) and 2 penalty minutes. The 5’10” 188 lbs. centre leads the Stars in points.
"I bring hard work, honesty and I can chip in offensively," he said in a telephone interview from Dallas. "Carolina has a vertern group and I think I can fit in there and help the club win some games."
With Miller’s passing ability there’s already been talk that he might get the chance to rid shotgun with Milan Hejduk. The Hurricanes have been looking for a player to fill the void after Alexie Yashin was removed from Hejduk’s line due to his la-de-da attitude.
"It would be nice," said Miller of playing with Hejduk. "But to be honest, I’ll play on the forth line if that’s what the coach needs. I’m here to win games not dream of scoring titles"
"After the initial shock, I have to say I am excited," said Miller. "I want to come in there and play well and prove myself."
Miller is expected to miss tonight’s game but be in uniform tomorrow as the Hurricanes open a back-to-back series with the Panthers as the Hurricanes seek out revenge for the firing of legend Don Shula by the Panthers earlier this season.
