Hi guys,

I will be in Vancouver Saturday through Monday this weekend with 2 of my friends and I was just wondering what exciting is there to do?? any good places to check out??

We are planning to hit nightclubs at night but i am not sure what to do during the day...
any suggestions are appreciated..

I've only spent a day in Vancouver, but the harbour was a nice place to visit. Though it's kinda been uglified right now since they are building a new convention centre (?) on the water that kinda ruins part of the view of the current facilities.

The club scene is a scary place out here these days. I'd stick to sports bars if I were you.

As for during the day, lot to see and do. Gastown is a cool spot, Robson St. downtown, the Vancouver aquarium...There are lots of hiking trails and stuff in North Van. Depends what you want to do really.

Whale watching (neat experience!), Stanley Park, Aquarium, Grouse Mountain are just some ideas...

All you can eat sushi. But I wouldn't totally avoid the clubs. Depends on how old you are, but if you are 19-25ish there are a ton of good clubs just avoid the chachey ones. Stick to places like the Royal, Buffalo Club, or if you want it really trashy try the Roxy or the Stone Temple. If you are 25-30 I'd probably hit up the Irish pubs like Doolins.

If you are looking for some kind of a cultural experience involving restaurants, I would go to Commercial Drive (in the day if you are going there for the first time though).

I guess it depends on the weather over the weekend... Robson and Granville Island have already been mentioned and are good ideas to check out during the morning/afternoon.

If the weather's nice, you could take a stroll down in the Kits neighborhood during the afternoon as well and relax on a patio some where.

As for clubs, there are a ton in Vancouver. Plaza on Granville Street is a nice place on Fridays. If you're more into lounges, check out Crush Lounge also on Granville Street for a nice posh atmosphere.

And yes, take advantage of the cheap and quality Japanese food in Vancouver. The selection and value is the best in the country.

If in fact you do check Granville Island, check out Bridges. It could possibly be my favorite restaurant in all of Vancouver. Great food and atmosphere. The deck/patio, if open is just awesome! - Yet, still quite casual. The view of downtown Vancouver is great from there. You gotta trust me on this one.

to the thread starter, what kind of things do you enjoy doing. What do you do for fun in Calgary? If you don't ever go to Kananaskis, i wouldn't suggest going to Grouse Mountain, for example.

Stanley park is always great, you could do the seawall, or you could walk around the interior, which I think is a lot more fun (maybe because I've just been spoiled by the view).

Vancouver has some great restaurants (If you want the 'Sushi Experience', I'd suggest going to Tojo's).

UBC has a pretty nice campus, but I don't know how entertaining that would be.

OK, is it just me, or is Granville Island way over rated? It just seemed like what we have in Eau Claire, Winnipeg has with the Forks, etc.

Granville Island > Eau Claire.

The market is cool, the different art spaces are interesting, plus, there is the water taxi! and salmon jerkey!

But ya, it is overrated.

Cap Bridge is overrated, especially if the weather is bad. Lynn Canyon's is free too. Granville Island is cool, I don't head down there nearly enough though so I can't really weigh in.

If you're a fan of BEvERages may I suggest Fogg n Suds on Robson. The selection blew me away the first time I visited. (They may also show the Flames game on Saturday night).

EDIT: as for a bar/place to hang late at night.. hit up the Cambie (if you're in the 19-25 range).

Granville Island is so much better than Eau Claire. I was in Calgary 2 years back, and was staying at the Sheraton across the street and I saw Eau Claire "Market", so I thought it would be similar to Granville Island market.......NOTHING ALIKE. Nightlife, I recommend the Roxy. Always busy, so get there early, but it's a good time. It's not classy by any stretch, but everytime I have gone there, I have had a great time. Great music, live band, no rap or hip hop. Stone Temple is crap, stay away, unless you like 16 year old skanks.

If you wanna go shopping, either Robson street or Metrotown gets my vote. Metrotown is really big now, and you can easily get lost, but there is a lot to choose from and you can totally waste a couple hours there and its easy to get to, skytrain takes you right there.

Haha I've read this in a couple of posts in this thread, and it made me depressed. I just turned 26 over the summer and I hate how I'm out of the "19-25 you can git er done, 26+ go hit the Irish pubs, nark" age group now. I know "you're as old as you feel", and if you saw me I could pass for 20, plus my gf's only 22 so I still end up at the 19-25 bars with her sometimes and I still fit right in, but it still depresses me

Anyways, it sounds like you're sticking to downtown Vancouver. But if you end up in the 'burbs, I lived there for a couple years in '04-'05 and the Foggy Dew always treated me well in Richmond.
