Default Ambulances Downtown

Anyone know why there was about 100 amublances from various districts parading through downtown today around 1pm?? There lights and sirens were all going making one hell of racket.

They weren't in any hurry, just going down MacLeod and up 4th Ave. But they had a full police escort as well.

I thought I saw a hearse at the front, but not sure.

I'm curious myself, a whole whack of them along with unmarked police cars just went speeding down 4th avenue

What was the hearse for? Could you imagine them picking up toys in a hearse?

That would be creepy!

I'm very familiar with the event ... I know the paramedic who organizes it every year. There would not be a hearse involved, but the armed forces medics are involved so it was probably an armed forces ambulance. It still wouldn'd look that much like a hearse, but it would look a lot different than a civilian ambulance.

Older ambulances looked liked hearses (they actually doubled up when ambulances were run by funeral homes) and I believe they had one in the line up this year. I'm not into work until tomorrow morning but I'm 99.9% sure that would've been it.

Edit: and the same time I finished this up I got pictures from the event...this was probably the ambulance/hearse that was in question...

The ambulance in "Slap Shot" was a hearse type.

ya, I forgot about those old cars. That would certainly be the explanation alright. I think I know who owns that one even.
