Default Name change

Is there any way I can get my username changed? I would love to get rid of this one and get one with a little more personality. I presume that I would have to PM or E-Mail and mod but would really like some confirmation.

Thanks.

As a rule we do not let users change their names.

Why, what's wrong with a first name with a few numbers after it anyways? All the cool people are doing it!

Why not sign up with a new account and put "formerly DAN0383" in your sig for a while?

That's exactly the same thing as us renaming them, and gets around the reason for not allowing it... if someone does that we'll ban the new account and ask that they use the old one.

What? Really? So basically if you want a different name in the future you don't have any way to do it? I don't understand why. Is it a bandwidth thing, and you don't want some massive member list?

This isn't something I'm personally thinking about doing (obviously my name is teh win), but it has definitely sparked my curiosity now. Is there somewhere where I can read about why this is such a zero-tolerance issue? I read the "dual online personalities" thing in the rules, which is fine by me, but if an account is left and never gone back to, unless I'm missing something I don't see why it would be that negative.

The mods usually have pretty good reasons for rules and whatnot, so if you want to divulge I would be interested to know. Even in a PM if you want. Thanks!

Some other forums have a field to change your name. However you can only do it once every 365 days.

If posters were allowed to change their names it would get to a point where we wouldn't know who the poster was we were discussing issues with. Irregardless we would loose all sense of community that has been established here.

That's basically the reason, when we did allow it it became too much. It detracted from the community since it became hard to track who was who. This way you get to know people better.

If there were special circumstances then we can look at it.

Yeah, or if changing your name is necessary because you are under the witness protection program.

Depends on how much you or the stalker are paying.

I've always wondered why the moderation staff are so adamant about not changing names, but that reason makes perfect sense.
