Father jailed for impregnating his 11 year old daughter
SASKATOON -- A man who impregnated his 11-year-old daughter, who bore the baby when she was 12, has been sentenced to five years in a penitentiary.
"I must say, sir, it's difficult, if not almost impossible, for me to understand how anyone could possibly do this to their own daughter, a daughter of such tender years," Judge Ronald Bell said in Saskatoon provincial court.
"She is scarred for life, sir. She may never fully recover from this, it's that traumatic, what she has faced in that period of time," Bell said.
The 41-year-old man, who cannot be named because it could identify the victim, pleaded guilty to incest and sexual assault, which occurred between Jan. 1, 2002, and July 1, 2004, in the city.

The judge lectures him, and then gives him 5 years in jail, which means that he'll probably be out in one with time served.
Please don't tell me about the therapeutic value or the rehabilitation of this guy, he's a scumbag who should never be free again.

He has a previous conviction for manslaughter, for which he served 27 months in custody in Alberta before being paroled. The date of that offence and incarceration were not stated in court.

5 years?
I don't trust that the media has reported this accurately, but to me this is about as bad as intentional murder.
And when I think about the future social conditions of the victim and her child, wow, this is really tragic and sick.

Yup! I just can't believe it.
Ya know?
It's no wonder that crime is on the rise. With sentences like that,
it's self explanatory.
The SOB was convicted of manslaughter too and he only served 27 months!

Even murderers in prisons don't like child molesters. This guy better hope he is in solitary confinement from the get-go.

People need to be educated on how disgusting some parts of our society are, and how society reacts in an almost equally disgusting way. 5 years for (statutory) raping of one's OWN child!?!? Horribly inadequate dispensation of justice.

More than that, the abuse started when she was 9 1/2. That's just sick.

Nah. The state shouldn't involving itself in such things as that. Just let him roam free with the other prisoners and let the law of the jungle hold sway. Convienently, the guards will be occupied with other problems....

Why was the prosecutor seeking only five years? Was that the maximum for this crime? For all the talk about changes to the sex laws in Canada like age of consent and such, the real focus should be making sure that the existing laws have some teeth, so that in a case like this where the actions are clearly reprehensible, the judge and the prosecutor can ensure that the offender gets what he deserves.
