Haunted Houses/Locations in Calgary Area
Just wondering if anyone knows of any supposed 'haunted' locations in and around Calgary that would be good to visit after dark?
Some friends and I are looking for something a little 'different' to do tonight.

The old firehall downtown. If you ask for a tour they will accomodate. It is now a car rental place (Budget i think). The basement is scary as hell. Also the teahouse (where was it moved?), and Banff Springs. My Pz have a couple of haunted places in Alberta books. They are an easy find at any small bookstore, and more than worth the ten or so dollars they cost.

If you go to my friend's house and wake him at 2am in the morning. He will take you on a tour.

More famous ones are of course the Deane House near Fort Calgary and some of the houses in Heritage Park.
I seem to recall that the Holy Cross Hospital building has had a few spookies wandering around.
Never seen anything myself. Though I did see a UFO once - but that's OT.

Gulf Canada Square is supposed to be haunted, by a lady dressed in black. She follows people around with a stern look, opens and closes doors, standard stuff like that. One report was that she threw an eraser or maybe it was a pen at a security guard that followed her.

I got news for you. None of it is real.
Once you realize it's an impossibility, the fear goes away and the effects of that fear (imagined "apparitions" etc) go away in turn.

There isn't much open to the public after dark that would allow you to go ghost hunting, I'm afraid. Small, old towns always seem to have some of the best results, though.

I don't think anyone in this thread is shaking in their boots over any of this. Its just a bit of silly fun for most people I think.

Thanks for the ideas! I think I'm going to check out that St. Mary's woods and maybe a tour of the old firehall.

There is that one house in Strathcona on the edge of the city that is supposedly haunted. My brother and a few friends went up there a few years ago, pulled onto the acrage, and didn't even get outside the vehicle. The house was abandoned, and spooky as hell. My brother went back there a few weeks later, and a buddy of ours wanted to spook him, so he hid in the bushes at the house, and when they pulled up, Dave jumped out with an axe and started swinging at the van! hahaha....He even left a nice little dent on the fender for good memories =)

Well, I've always wondered what's the difference between seeing ghosts and being schizophrenic (sp?). I mean, who knows. Maybe schizo people are seeing ghosts, or maybe people who claim they saw a ghost are just schizo.

Schizo people hear voices as opposed to seeing imaginary things.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but did anyone go out last night to any 'haunted locations' trying to stir up some entertainment on Halloween night? Any stories?

Back in 2004 when I was in the broadcasting program at MRC me and a buddy did a documentary there. It was cool, we called ahead and they gave us free run of the place once it closed, even got a tour. We even called up this crazy psychic lady who came with us for free(she told us she had evidently predicted we were going to call for this very reason, as she said the day before we called she suddenly had this urge to go to the Deane House. It was meant to be my friends )
Anyways, she wanted to do a sayonce(sp?) up in the attic so we did(me and my partner were doing our best from laughing). In the end, nothing really to report. Although we were told by a long-standing staff member that apparently lots of creepy things used to happen in the house, but since a priest was brought in to perform an exorcism in 1990, it's been pretty quiet.
