Why I Love The CHL
The league can be so backwards it's funny.
Take the Mastercard Top 10. They rank the top 10 teams across the three CHL leagues weekly (for those who were unaware). Currently the list looks like this:
CHL Mosaik MasterCard Top 10 Rankings – week 3
1. Calgary Hitmen (9-1-0-0)
2. Sault Ste-Marie Greyhounds (7-0-1-0)
3. Tri-City Americans (7-1-0-0)
4. Windsor Spitfires (6-0-0-1)
5. Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (6-2-1-0)
6. Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (8-2-0-0)
7. Brandon Wheat Kings (5-1-0-0)
8. Kitchener Rangers (5-0-0-0)
9. Baie-Comeau Drakkar (6-2-0-1)
10. Niagara Ice Dogs (6-1-0-0)
How I'd like to point out team #6 (my team, w00p w00p). Cape Breton is a team that most people predicted to not only miss the playoffs but finish last in the league. Thanks to a hot start, despite missing James Sheppard thanks to him signing with the Wild, and their starting goalie going down with a shoulder injury leaving the work to be done by a 16 yr old, the team is 8-2. Blowing the minds of everyone that follows the game. Last weekend's double header against Bathurst, a team expected to be in the top of the league, yielded a combined 14-3 score over the two games.
So should the Eagles be there before their pending crash back to reality with a young, but hard working team? Sure.
However
Notice Rouyn-Noranda currenly ranked #5. With a 6-2-1 start they're rated better than Cape Breton, despite having a worse record. Does that make any sense?
Nope.
And that's why I love junior hockey, the rankings and standings mean nothing.
I just needed to rant to get my head around how ridiculous this season has been thus far as and Eagles fan.
PS: Congrats on the Hitmen being ranked #1

You sir, are experiencing what most people would likely consider an epidemic of free time.
Glad to hear it....

Sweet! We have both the Hitmen and Americans in town this weekend!
BTW: How on earth is Tri-City 7-1 without Carey Price..

Saint John reminds me of Cape Breton in the beginning, couldn't do anything right, couldn't catch a break.
Now while we still suck in the playoffs, the team has become respectable and produced some top notch players such as James Sheppard mentioned above, and Marc-Andre Fleury pictured below.

I think we may have actually turned the corner this year.. The team has gotten off to a decent start. Although we are still very young i think we have a great base and should be very good next year.

Surprised we only fell to third, being on a three game losing streak and all.

my head hurts
Cape Breton is the #1 team in the CHL. That makes no sense at all. Like on paper they're projected to finish last in the Q, yet according to the standings they're first in the who freakin' Canadian Hockey League.
Time for bed I think . . . this just doesn't add up.
