Nice deal, Value wise its very even. But getting a upgrade in net is very hard to do in this league. Without a top goalie I dont think a team has come close to winning the cup in this league? Id give the edge to Ana for now but that top line in pitts is darn scary now.

Anytime you can get a number 1 goalie you win the trade. Kari Lehtonen cannot stay healthy and is on a very bad Atlanta team. I like it for the Ducks but the lines the Pens can unload on us in the East is deadly

Well, for those of you that haven’t already checked the transaction page and been cheap. The deal breaks down like this:

To the Pens:
Joe Thornton (84OV)
Scott Hannan (78OV)
Kari Lehtonen (79OV)
Cody Franson

To the Ducks:
Mike Cammalleri (78 OV)
Roberto Luongo (84OV)
Adam Pardy
Craig Rivet (75OV)

The Ducks are sad to announce the departure of a franchise player and great leader, Joe Thornton. In a league with GMs of such a high caliber, to get a franchise player you must give one up. Coming back to the Ducks is one of the best young goalies in the league, Roberto Luongo. He comes under contract for 2 years just like Joe and he is a top 3 netminder in the CPHL. Kari has shown a lot of promise but our organization was concerned with his injury concerns so to shore up a goalie of Luongos stature is outstanding. Joe was a great player for this team and we wish him and the others the best in Pittsburgh.

Cammalleri is a young star in this league and we feel that he is ready to be a team leader. He has performed very well and should get a nice rerate by the end of the season to a low 80.

The Ducks would like to thank GM Goff and the Pens for the easy negotiations. This blockbuster took all of 40 minutes to complete, maybe even less. We knew what we wanted and got it done fast, great dealing with you Goff!

Wow, a massive deal for both sides. Will be interesting to see how each team will perform.......... Has the Penguins broke the SIM curse?

Good job GMs...... I love it when teams make Massive deals....

EDIT: fixed my mistake....

It is exciting when deals like this are made, no question about it. I think that the Pens got a lot better here. I really think that other than the goaltending portion they come out ahead on each portion.

Luongo wasn't working out as Goffie had hoped, so if Lehtonen comes out and performs like a young star then this is a great trade for the Penguins.

This isn't to take away from what the Ducks picked up in this deal though. If Luongo starts to produce as he should given his rating then he is worth the sacrifice in my opinion!

Well it was no surprise that I was not happy with the way my team has been playing. I am not an overly patient GM and never have been. I am hoping what Flambers has said is correct and that the Pens can shock the Sim curse. Luongo was horrible for us and my goal this year was to get back to the finals. I didn't think Luongo could do that so I moved him. Thornton speaks for himself, he was the reason that we moved the best young goalie in the world. I am the type of guy who likes goals and lots of them, the motto in Pittsburgh has always been offense before defense and I think this deal proves it. We now have a big three up front that I would say IMO is the best in the CPHL. If Joe Thornton, Jason Spezza, and Olli Jokinen do not produce then I give up.

We are also confident in Kari. He is one of the top young goalies in the game. We feel that if he can play solid then that will be enough for us to win. We don't want to have to rely on him to steal games, we wanna score in droves and force the other teams to try and beat us in a shootout. That is where Hannan comes in. He is about as good of a shutdown defender as there is.

This deal for its magnitude went down very fast. It may have took less then a half hour, I would like to thank Ravi for the quick talks and wish Luongo the best of luck with the Ducks organization. Hopefully this deal can turn the season around for both teams.

Wow I like it a lot for the Pens personally. The only negative on their part is that Hannan has UFA status after this season so he's going to cost a bundle to keep.

Other than that, good deal for Goffie.

In goal- Luongo is rated much better, but sometimes that isn't as important as the team playing in front of the goalie. And it's not like Lehtonen is bad, he's young as hell, has a great contract, is rated well already and will be around an 80OV for a long time. So, downgrade for the Pens here but not too big of a downgrade.

Other than that- Pens get Thornton and Hannan for Cammalleri and Rivet. Thornton is the highest rated forward I think? Great player, signed for this year and next. And is much more prepared to produce on a first line this season than Cammalleri is.

As much as I like Luongo and think he's one of the best in the league, the fact is he has been playing like crap in Pittsburgh and Lehtonen certainly can't do worse. Given their ages and Lehtonen's potential I'd say this deal is looks very good for the Pens. Thornton and Hannan are more likely to provide a big boost then Lehtonen is likely to cause any more of a problem in net. To me, the Pens won the deal this year by a bit and in the future by a ton.

If the Ducks get lucky, Luongo will step it up for their team and this deal won't look too terrible for them, but as is I really think the Pens come out laughing.
