Default Tale of two Houses..

House #1 A 20 room mansion ( not including 8 bathrooms ) heated
by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest
house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more
energy than the average American household does in a year. The
average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400/mo. In
natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the
national average for an American home. This house is not situated
in a Northern or Midwestern "snow belt" area. It's in the South.

House #2 Designed by an architecture professor at a
leading national university. This house incorporates every
"green" feature current home construction can provide. The house is
4,000 square feet ( 4 bedrooms ) and is nestled on a high prairie in the
American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal
heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the
ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F. ) heats the house in the winter
and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or
natural gas and it consumes one-quarter electricity required for a
conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected
and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from
showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then
into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land
surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area
enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape.

~~~~~
HOUSE #1 is outside of Nashville, Tennessee; it is the abode of
the "environmentalist" Al Gore.
HOUSE #2 is on a ranch near Crawford,
Texas; it is the residence the of the President of the United States,
George W. Bush.
If you've followed Al Gore's life and political career, this makes perfect sense. For people like me who knew Al Gore's name before he became the Vice-President in 1993, lending his name to the cause of global warming actually makes me more skeptical of a lot of the science.
As for GW Bush's digs in Texas, that was a surprise. There's someone that really didn't need to do any of that for political gain considering I'm sure most of his core voters in 2000 and 2004 would have actually thought worse of him if he were to drive a hybrid car or something like that.
Ahh lives of the rich and famous. Who cares. Couldn't afford either house and other than a pie in the sky kinda argument means zilch to me. Compare the average Joe's instead.
I turn out the lights on the way down to watch the game. I have two compost thingees in my backyard and drive a Toyota Tercel.
My neighbor has all these stinkin motion lights, drives a Mercedez and does NOT do the compost thing. Plus he is an Oiler fan.
I mean the last point alone makes him a loser even if he does turn into a greener kind of guy!!!!
Personally, I would rather live in Gore's house.
Something about drinking your waste water isn't really appealing to me.
Within 15-20 years you'll be doing just that as mandated by law. The Eco-movement is more than just saving the environment, the political wing wants to ram their lifestyle and economic thoughts down people's throats even if there's acceptable capitalist/libertarian alternatives. The environment part gives these people a sense of a moral high-ground in order to justify forcing the public into submission.
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but the water you drink on any given day was once the moisture in somebody's / something's poop. Might have been a brontosaurus', or it might have been Fotze's.
Plus the quote goes on to say that it's grey water being re-used, not black. And it's being used to water plants, not to make iced tea.
Al has a cool million, nevermind a shiny new medal for reflective energy, to add add-ons to his house now. Anyone figure it will be to have "green" energy to heat his heated OUTDOOR pool?
Or will it be for more BS about carbon tradeoffs?
BTW: How many trees has he planted? Could it be anywhere near the number that the lumber industry in Canada did last year?
Saint Al.......our zero.
I'm very opposed to carbon tradeoffs, very similar to back in the middle ages where it was socially and religiously acceptable to buy your way out of sins in the eyes of God. In reality it just spawned massive corruption on behalf of the church. Coincidence that Al Gore has strong financial stakes in companies that offer carbon offsets for sale? The company could theoretically just take your money without doing anything applicable on the other side with very few people every being able to audit it.
The house that Gore lives in makes him look like a hypocrite. He should be leading by example.
A thread about this was posted a few months ago. So Al Gore is full of BS. I'm shocked!
Too prove he is sincere. He should move into a log cabin with no running water or electricity.
Good analogy... it is like buying indulgences, and run by a similarily shady group of people.
IF you can't walk the talk then you are left wide open to deserved shots. Why wouldn't he at the very least live in a home which matches his talk? Not like he couldn't build any home he felt like!!!!
###. A perfect example of this is something I looked at a while ago. I looked at a package for solar power for my house. I could go 95-100% solar for all of my electricity needs. And if there was still power left over, I could convert some of my heat to electric to ease the burden on my gas powered furnace.
What stopped me was the price. $10-15K to get this done. Part of the reason is the cost of manufacturing these solar panels; like anything else they get cheaper and cheaper the more they are produced. I can't afford to be an "early adopter" for solar power, but Gore certainly can.
The thing they are not telling you is how much solar power etc. that Gore has added to his house. He was criticized in the media about this so he invited some media types to his house to show the "green" aspects he has added.
I am not a Gore supported nor a green supported but this post almost reeks of Michael Moore in its one-sided-ness
Much more than an early adopter --- the guy should have the stinkin model "GREEN' house.
He can put lipstick on the pig all he wants, but until he moves into a 900 sq foot, renewable powered shack complete with every 'green' feature imaginable he's living a life that's not compatable with what he won a Nobel prize telling the rest of us to do. The way in which he lives undermines his ability to spread credability to his meassage.
