As soon as I saw the title, I just knew that you wouldn't be able to resist this line.

I thought rabbit where all over Calgary, they've been in every community i've ever lived in, saw a bunch down at the university recently too. I fail to see how they can be so much more of a problem in one community. We near ran a pair of em down last night coming home from a pub, and a couple months ago i had to get the city to come clean a dead one off the road infront of our place.
Which community was it anyways?

The problem is these ones are "tame" rabbits; not the wild jackrabbits we see all over the place. Where the jackrabbits are part of the natural landscape of the area; these guys are not.
Like it or not; these previous pets are wild now. I'm sure winter will take care of most of them. Short of exterminating the rest, I'm not sure what can be done.

I saw this on The Hour last night. There is an animal group trying to capture as many as they can and are planning to bring them somewhere in BC.

Screw the bunnies.
If they're wild then good for them.
If they're ferral and they have been living in a cage their whole life, then winter, or coyotes will solve that problem.
Besides, what kind of problem is having too many rabbits running around.
Oh no, look out for all those cute little bunnies.
I say don't worry about it, it's a little too soon to go shopping for snakes and gorillas just yet.

The problem some people have with 'em is they eat your garden vegetables, leave their all over your front lawn, and dig holes in your yard. It's not a problem if there are one or two, but if you have a dozen or more running around the neighborhood, then it becomes a nuisance. And the problem is multiplying.
Me, I just want to know if you can safely eat these.

The "tame" bunnies fare quite well. Someone let a black bunny out in our hood, and it made it through the winter just fine. What's even neater is they seem to have cross-bred with the wild bunnies, because you see hybrid ones running around this year. Some of them are a mix of black and wild bunny colours, while others are oddly proportioned.

On the news, they were specifically talking about the now 'wild' domestic rabbit problem in Valley Ridge

Who knows? Since these rabbits are domestic pets that have been released into the wild I'd imagine that they haven't seen a vet in a while. You take your chances every time you consume a wild animal. If you're going to eat one, film the entire process from capture to stomach and put that sucker up on Youtube. Make sure you get lots of closeups of the bunny's fearful face before you kill it.

Yeah, winter and predators might kill off a few, but they breed too quickly for it to have any impact on their overall numbers. Canmore is a great example of this: despite being generally colder than Calgary with more exposure to predators, their population of feral bunny rabbits has been growing steadily over the last 20 years.

I'm no expert on the subject, but I'd be pretty sure you could safely catch and eat those bunnies. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to. Plenty of people are catching and eating wild bunnies all the time. It seems like a good idea to me.
