It's difficult to eat with one hand while driving. You'd get rice everywhere, and the sauce would make every surface in your car sticky.

I don't know about you but 90% of the time i'm at a drive thru its not to eat in my car but more because i'm lazy and don't want to cook so I'll just pick something up.
I mean like right now, I'd go for some Ginger Beef... Do I want to get delivery and pay for delivery? Is there a minimum amount I need to order to even get it delivered?
All of these complications would be moot if there was a Chinese Drive Thru

Yes, that's true for me as well, but I think the original purpose of the drive-thru was the ability to drive and eat, and a significant percentage of the drive-thru customer-base is probably still that way.
I suppose you could ask the same question about pizza places. Some foods seem to be conducive to pick-up/delivery and some to drive-thru.

I don't get it. You want drive thru because you are too lazy to cook and don't mind picking something up. Which by the way is called Takeout... which exists. Unless of course you are trying to tell us you are taking it one step further and are too lazy to get out of the car. Besides, what would you want more? A or B...
A) Call your order in ahead of time (takes a couple minutes), then when you feel like it, go pick it up. This usually means the food is somewhat fresh. It's ready when you get there and you're out the door in a minute.
B) Go to the drive thru and wait in the line of vehicles for a couple minutes. When you get to the window they hand you the food after a couple minutes of packaging. However, to meet the short time from order to delivery of the food, everything must be made in advance and is sitting under heat lamps ala buffet style leaving the food soggy and luke warm.
What would you go for now?

This got me thinking, and I thought, if any Chinese restaurant chain would do this, I bet it would be Panda Express in the States, so I Googled Panda Express, and look at what I found:
Apparently, this photo is of a restaurant in Oakland, CA (there's a bigger version on the Wikipedia page for Panda Express). The Wikipedia page says that they started opening stand-alone restaurants with drive-thrus in 2004.
Maybe someone here can get the Canadian franchising rights.

I would use a drive thru Chinese food restaurant. Same with a Vietnamese one. Someone should get on this.

Driving while downing a spring roll = perfect. But how greasy would your steering wheel get?

For those who think it would be a good idea- I have a question. Would waiting 30 minutes in your car be better than waiting 10 minutes in the store? A Chinese order takes anywhere from 10-30 minutes to prepare; which is why most of us call it in ahead of going there. So even if you are just going in for ginger beef and rice (ie- something quick or mostly ready), all you'd need is me ahead of you ordering food for 10 people.
Drive thrus work well for fast food. Not as well the longer it takes food to be ready. And if I'm going to pick up Chinese food; I'm not going to settle for "food court" quality to save me getting out of the car.

I think that there is a drive-thru Chinese place in Lethbridge on Mayor Magrath Drive? I've never been through, and never seen a car in there though, so who knows how long the experiment will last!?

I'm still waiting for the restaurant chain with a drive through that takes whatever you order, runs it through a blender gives it to you in a travel mug with a straw so that you can drink it on the way home.
Also saves on wear and tear to your teeth and your digestive track.

I stopped at the place in Lethbridge (on M. Magrath) last time I was down there. Wasn't the worst thing I'd ever eaten in a drive-thru and as a matter of fact there were a few cars in line that night.

I know this place. The food isn't exactly quality.

It was very popular when it first opened. My wife really wanted to try it out and I thought it was fairly expensive and not that great.
Not sure that the drive-thru experience really affected my opinion of it though.

I love that place! Though I have not actually used the drive-thru part. Nice portions, love the bbq pork.
