Note to boys in the tiny Spurger, Texas, school district: Put away those high heels and pleated skirts. Instead, wear black boots and Army camouflage to school Wednesday.

A parent's concerns prompted the district 150 miles northeast of Houston to scrap its annual "TWIRP Day" -- when boys dress like girls and girls dress like boys-- in favor of "Camo Day."

TWIRP stands for "The Woman Is Requested to Pay," and for years Spurger schools hosted the day during Homecoming Week to give boys and girls a chance to reverse social roles and let older girls invite boys on dates, open doors and pay for sodas

Nothing wrong with that right? They have been doing it for years, I bet its hilarious for the kids to do.

Quote:

Davies, whose 9-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter attend Spurger Elementary, said she viewed the day not a silly Homecoming Week activity, but as an effort to push a homosexual agenda in a public school.
Oh Ms. Davis, you poor closed minded, misguided fool.

That's some funny stuff. Good job lady! None of this offensive dressing up like a girl -- dress up the kids in military costumes to send the proper message that homersexuality is WRONGWRONGWRONG!

Seems to me that the busybody might have just kept her two brats home for the day, reading from the bible of flagellating or something but nope, god put her on this earth to ruin it for the rest of the kids.

"It's like experimenting with drugs," said Davies, who also has a 2-year-old daughter. "You just keep playing with it and it becomes customary. ... If it's OK to dress like a girl today, then why is it not OK in the future?"

That is too much. Maybe telling your kid to dress in military fatigues also sends the wrong message.

Stanley said the activities sent a message of gender confusion and risked subjecting her young daughters to sexual harassment by "a bunch of adolescent boys who have suddenly grown breasts and are groping themselves."

Using that logic, wouldn't dressing in camo lead to things like....say....Columbine?

What a crock.

If your kids want to cross dress, I'm pretty sure they didn't get the idea from a school activity. We had cross dressing days all through our school years and not once was it ever mentioned that it was promoting a homosexual lifestyle, or sexual abuse. Kids don't ever think twice about this type of activity. When we were little kids, we dressed up as men, women, cowboys, astronauts, and never once did I think I might be a spaceman, let alone a homosexual. Sheesh. It's all in good fun until parents like Ms. Davis interfere because they have a personal hang up or some type of "agenda", as she put it so nicely.

I'm sure they've both probably said it.

I just remember in the South Park movie when she promotes violence (a war) to protect the children from smut. Seems like a similar situation here. Not that I see the gender role reversal as smut, but the mother in the article obviously does.

Man that is freakin weak. My rugby team does the annual "Best Dressed" party, where we show how manly we are by dressing up like chicks and going to the bar. All this time I just thought it was fun, and actually a pretty good way to pick up chicks. Turns out our social director was just trying to turn me Queer (best to say the turn me queer part in a souther accent.)

The Religious Right strikes again. "Family values" is going to be a great rallying cry for anything these folks deem as offensive. You thought Tipper Gore was a wench to deal with, wait until you get aload of thse clowns! We're all going to hell, or so they like to remind us.

Tipper Gore was a riot. I can't believe anyone took her seriously. I'll never forget her list of things to look out for to find out if your kids were into drugs or Satan. One thing was "black t-shirts". Another was if they listened to "Devo".

Personally, I would never dress up like a girl. Even jokingly, but eh, whatever. This lady is pretty crazy though. How she parents her children should not influence everyone. Not everyone wants to have your values lady.

Isn't this called a Sadie Hawkins Dance in the US? Where girls ask out boys? As I understand that's fairly commonplace.

While I think the complainer in the story is a shade wacko, I say that a TWIRP day is pretty unnecessary before Grade 7. Make it a Jr High - High school thing but when your main concern to what to make in the sandbox that day I think it's a tad premature at the elementary school stage.

This is going to be an interesting few years in the states. I'm glad I'm watching from a distance, with all of this "mandate" to take the US back into the 1950's and to follow lock step with the religo-cons every boring, boring pure beckoning.

Do any of them see the faults in their hate-breeding actions with the teachings of their bible?
