Default Weir wins Fries... er Fry's Open

Just want to mention that Mike Weir managed to hold on today and win the Fry's Electronic Open by one stroke over Mark Hensby.

http://www.tsn.ca/golf/news_story/?ID=221126&hubname=

Mike has really struggled the past while, I was suprised to see this is his first tour win in over three years. It seems like the Presidents Cup might have been the little shot in the arm that Mike needed to refind his confidence and his game.

and... have you ever heard of a worse name for an event, in any sport? Fry's Electronic Open. Seriously.

Yeah, bad name for the event. But winning PGA first prize money is winning PGA first prize money. At that level the golfers are all pretty close and confidence is absolutely huge. Weir's played a lot of events with a field like this all year and been 20th in the pack. Nice to see him step up to the front of the pack.

Coming into the tournament, Weir was 84th on the money list. This bumps him up to 33rd.

Ames finished tied for 27th.

I don't think that does anything for him other than pad his bank account as he already had won enough to be no worried about his spot for next year. But the last few weeks has got to be a HUGE boost for him mentally. If they had a rating for mental wellness he would have gone up a great many points as you could literally see the confidence level rising up dramatically!!!

Big deal! Weir is horrible, and hasn't been good since 2004.

Who did he beat to win this tournament? One of the last tournys of the year that no one really cares about...I am sure he will come out flying in 2008 like last year and everyone will be wondering where he disappeared.
