Question Problem When Burning VCD's

Firstly, calling me non-computer savvy would be the understatement out of the day, so please bear with me. Just wanted to get that out of the way.

I downloaded some videos and burned them to a CD-R using the Cyberlink DVD software. When I previewed the video before burning, everything looked okay, but for some reason the video quality is just awful when I play it on my TV. It's EXTREMELY choppy. It seems to play every third frame (ex. one minute someone in the movie will be standing somewhere, and the next frame he'll be in another part of the room but you won't see him walking), and it pauses for about half a second to a second between each frame, so it's pretty much impossible to watch. It's kind of like when you try to watch a streaming video with a million different programs running in the background, and it's just choppier than anything. I don't know if the information is relevant, but I'm using an LG Super Multi External DVD Rewriter to burn the CD.

My question is, what might be causing it to burn with such bad quality, and what could I do to try and fix it? I don't have a really fantastic computer as far as memory goes, so could having an excess of songs/video games/movies on the hard drive be causing it? Just a thought.

Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

This probably has nothing to do with the quality of the burn but the quality of the video conversion. What format were the videos you downloaded originally? Why are you burning them to VCD? (Mpeg-1). Cyberlink might not be an adequate program needed to convert your video depending on the original format and what codecs you have installed.

You could burn to SVCD / Mpeg-2 with a DVD player.

My other comment would be regarding the cdr format. if you are trying to burn a dvd copy onto a cdr, there just isn't enough room.

personally, if you are going that small, i would make sure that you are using an xvid or .avi format.

Thanks!

The format of the original files was .wmv, but when I saved them to my desktop, they seemed to have been converted to .avi files.

Would converting the files from .avi/.wmv to Mpeg-1 help at all? If so, what program would you recommend downloading to do this?

I don't think it's an issue of room, as I am only taking up about half (300-400mb) of the CD's memory.

If you need any more info, please let me know.

VCDs are going to be poor quality compared to DVDs no matter what you do, especially if you're watching on a fairly large screen. To get decent quality, I'd suggest downloading a larger file. I'd also suggest avoiding wmv and sticking to divx (avi) as the compression quality is much better.
