Ya, I saw the Amazon one last night, and thought it was a wicked episode. He makes CBS's Survivor look like a stay at a five star resort. The guy is awesome.

It was a pretty good season. The finale was a bit of a letdown because it turned into a decent vacation for him, but all in all, Les is the man

Was a great season, I particularly liked the Alaska one, gorgeous area.
I didn't like the behind the scenes show though, it made him seem so much less bad-ass getting all that help before

Man vs. wild is pretty good too. i don't get to see many of them and i can't remember which one is which, but there is one of them that i think is a little more hardcore. doesn't survivor man get all sorts of things to bring with him? like some food, a knife, etc? the other guy just gets dropped off somewhere with pretty much nothing. again, i could have the two backwards. either case -- hats off to anyone that eats bugs for entertainment, b/c it certainly wouldn't be me.

I watched the Amazon one yesterday. That is a fantastic show! I would much, much prefer to be stranded in the Rockies as opposed to there. At least are not too many critters there to try to hide from, whereas in the Amazon there are so many things to deal with other than the climate!
That show is easily one of my favorites...along with Mantracker!

He did a show where he was dropped off either top or really high up a mountain in the Rockies last season. Not sure if you saw it, but it was one of my favourite episodes.
I agree with you about Mantracker, although I've yet to see someone beat that smug SOB. I also like Backpackers, which is about a group of guys backpacking through Europe on a shoestring budget. My son is all gungho to do this when he gets out of high school.

I saw the one in the Rockies and it did look horrible! I am not saying that I could do it there at all, just saying if I had my choice it would not be battling the elements and those poisonous critters!
I have seen a couple of people beat Mantracker...I would love to try that show!

I've seen a few people beat Mantracker....2 were British special forces that swam down a freezing river and ran through a canyon to evade him, another 2 were girls that hitchhiked while being run down, and just last week one of the 2 partners made it. Mantracker gets pretty pissed when people beat him though, which is part of the appeal.

Wouldn't the cameras be a dead giveaway where they are? Man Tracker, Survivor Man, and Pilot Guides are my favorite OLN channels.

http://www.mantracker.ca/bts.html sheds a little light into it. Apparently the cameraman wit the "prey" is some kind of ultrafit adventure racer.

They are filming Mantracker in the Cape Breton Highlands this fall or spring. Should be interesting for anyone who has been there.

Survivorman is a reality television program broadcast in Canada on the Outdoor Life Network (OLN), and in the United States on The Discovery Channel and The Science Channel. Host Les Stroud must survive for seven days in various remote locales with little or no food, water, or equipment. He is dropped off with his clothes, a pair of cases for his camera equipment, his trusty harmonica (only to keep his morale up), and a multi-tool. Usually, he also has random bits of everyday items that a stranded person in the given area might be likely to possess. He also carries a satellite phone for use in an emergency.

It's a good show.

Bear Grylls also doesn't always stay out in the wild, and has a camera crew with him. I remember a month or two ago, there was a big stink raised because it was revealed that Grylls stays in hotels and doesn't stay out in the bush during the filming of his show. Here is another look at 'Man Vs. Wild' - "In one example, the original showed Grylls eating a rabbit he claimed to have caught in a trap. In truth, the crew provided the rabbit for him. In the new version, a voice-over from Grylls explains, “My trap didn’t catch anything overnight, but I’ve been brought a rabbit to tell you what to do if you’re luckier than me.”

Survivorman is definitely the more authentic of the two shows, although I woun't discount the condititions that Bear Grylls has to put up with. One is just a little more Hollywood than the other....which is often the case when you compare Canadian and American shows. Love em both though.
