KANDAHAR — The Afghan war is not one conflict but three: a guerrilla war, a development war and a communications war. Canada is gaining ground in the first and slowly winning the second. We’re losing the third. The military and the media deserve some measure of blame for this. Mainly though, responsibility falls to Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Even as he struggles to sell the Afghan mission to an increasingly uneasy public, his mania for control is stifling the truth about what’s really happening here. the tragedy is that this truth is extraordinary. It’s a story of courage and grit and idealism that, if more Canadians only knew it, would make them very proud. But most don’t know it, because the people best positioned to tell it have been gagged.
Great Story, one of Stephen Harper's biggest weakness is his relationship with the media, and his reliance on not engaging his critics. Something that Brian Mulrooney and Jean Chretian didn't have a problem with.
