Default PreventIt.ca commercial

I think this commercial needs its own thread. It is being discussed in the GT, as I guess it has been on all day during HNIC. For those that haven't seen it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=noFCekWiUGE

But be warned: it is graphic, disturbing, shocking *insert adjective here*.

I guess that is the point. Drive home that there really are no accidents and we all have to be careful on the job.

I really don't like that I have seen this commercial several times, throughout the day. Maybe that's something they should be playing later at night, so the kiddies don't see it.

Those screams are haunting...

Not to nit pick, but no sous chef worth anything would be wearing a ring in the kitchen, thats the accident waiting to happen.

Her scream sounds exactly the same as the Gummy Bear from Robot Chicken (when its leg gets caught).

I mean exactly, for comparison (nsfw, language): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Oq4Z97ZqYo

When I saw it my first reaction was "I need to see that again"!

(PS how pathetic is it that we're more entertained by the ads than the flames)

No. I was on the floor laughin as well. Not to nit pick here but something I noticed that is completely wrong with this "terror" ad is the floor. No kitchen I have ever worked at has marble floors, or floors that look that shiny. Yes, floors get greasy, but a little salt fixes that. Funny thing is, the only people I have ever seen slip on line are servers and the biggest injury has been to egos due to up skirt shots.

The bottom line is that workplace accidents happen all the time, and they are quite often preventable. I've been where I'm at now for about 4.5 years, and I have definitely slacked off in the safety department. All it takes is one careless second for my life to change.

This commercial doesn't have to be a 100% accurate representation of a restaurant kitchen to get the point across loud and clear.

I agree that accidents can happen anytime, anywhere, especially due to employee carelessness. What's funny to me is the over dramatization. Talk about trying to scare the heck out of people.

I think you're right, that was the exact goal. And it worked. I was shocked to say the very least. Go read the first few pages of tonight's game thread, I was surprised to see all the talk about it. I don't know if I'd consider it a great ad, but this is one of the most in your face commercials I have ever seen.

Not as bad as the Australian drunk driving commercials, but like oilers_fan said, does its job.

I was only half watching the commercial the first time I saw it and I must say I found it a little bloody disturbing. However, the next time I am a Sous Chef in a restaurant kitchen (never, I'm a Piping Designer) I will make sure I clean up any grease that I spill.

If you have ever stuck a knife into your own arm, you take this kinda stuff seriously. I think these commericals are fantastic, even if it makes just 1% of all people who see it consider thier workplace safety, it is worth it.

That said, I used to cut meat for a living, and have seen some pretty gross stuff as a result. Including watching 2 guys saw into their own hands, one guy run off the line with his severed thumb sitting on the piece of meat he was cutting and another stick his 6 inch knife all the way through the middle of his forearm and slice it down several inches.

This commerical still made me so sick I couldnt eat for 20 mins.

Is anyone else getting desensitized to drama? Whoop-de-do another commercial trying to scare me into thinking and acting a certain way. You know I watched 7 periods of hockey today and didn't notice that commercial once?

You know what would be cool? If they showed that spliced together with the bullet commercial. That would get my attention.

These commercials fascinate me, I wonder how they make them since the accidents are so realistic. You never even see such shock moments in most movies/film in such clarity and close quarters. The one with the welder being blown off the building the very obvious CG but the others are very well done and you don't even suspect CG is in play.
