The most powerful image you will see today
Major Mark Bieger found this little girl after the car bomb that attacked our guys while kids were crowding around. The soldiers here have been angry and sad for two days. They are angry because the terrorists could just as easily have waited a block or two and attacked the patrol away from the kids. Instead, the suicide bomber drove his car and hit the Stryker when about twenty children were jumping up and down and waving at the soldiers.

Wow. I'm speechless. Stuff like this hits me even harder since I have a kid of my own. How you could deliberately and negligently harm children like that is beyond me.
I guess we can rest assured that if there is a God, those suicide bombers are in for a shock when they meet him.

Will god also punish the fighter pilots who drop the 1000 pound bombs killing
children?

Wars bring collateral damage unfortunately, I don't know how God would view that. But as far as I'm concerned, there is a big difference between knowingly and willingly killing as many innocent people as possible and what you are suggesting.

Hmmm....
So when our guys do it, it's collateral damage, but when the enemy does it, it's murder? I'm definitely for the war in Afghanistan but that's a skewed way of looking at things.

Well, it says the suicide bomber did it specifically when kids were all around the soldiers. That shows serious lack of regard for human life. As bad as it might seem with regards to the fighter pilots, I highly doubt they are in the same frame of mind as suicide bombers, waiting for the most innocent lives to be around before they drop the bombs.

Don't kid yourself too much. If Bin Laden was holed up in a preschool somewhere, I don't think a general would hesitate to drop a cluster bomb on it.

Instead of just feeling and expressing sadness over such a horrible photo, some of you guys have to make this all political.
Kind of pathetic.

Yeah, I can't believe a debate would break out on, of all places, an internet message board.

If this had been an Iraqi father holding a child, this picture would have received zero attention.

What did you expect? That everyone's comment will be "God Bless America!"
The picture is sad no question. I stand by my comment, however. If one of "us guys" posted pictures of the people cooked by white phosphorus in Fallujah or of an Iraqi parent grieving over a dead child, I wonder what "you guys" would have to say.

That's it's horrible. Duh.
"You guys" must think "us guys" are monsters.

It may have received zero attention from some people, but u can't say that about everyone, some people actually do care whether it is a soldier or an Iraqi. I am sure many people on this forum would STILL give a lot of attention had it been an Iraqi father.

It's a dead kid. We all feel pretty bad about that, regardless of what conflict going on. Apparently, so did the soldier in the picture. Grow up.

Yikes... I feel sorry that you're so jaded as to think any of us would be happy to see a child, any child hurt.

Some people's reaction to this picture like making it a political debate or anything less than sorrow and reflection, just makes me like my pets more. Some people are just awful.
Thanks for posting the picture, sitting in Western Canada its hard to appreciate everything going on in other parts of the world.

Yeah, because the image has nothing to do with politics? Obviously people are going to start thinking about the "why" once they see this image.
Obviously its a really sad picture and shows how terrible things can get in war. But it does open discussion as to why any of this is even going on.

Even though they aren't in the same frame of mind, they do know
that dropping a bomb is killing innocent people...there's no hiding that. You can't just pretend that no one innocent dies because the bomb is coming from further away. Its pretty much the same result. Dead civilian = dead civilian.
