Default Skill Set over Skills

What is up with everyone using the catch phrase "skill set" now over just simply saying someone has great "skills."? Everyone seems to picking up on this. It bugs me.

It means you have groupings of specific skills that ordered and useful for a particular job... versus a ton of random skills.

But really, just more corporate crapspeak like synergy.

Exactly. Skill set, synergy, stream lining, "Adam kerp your pants on". All corporate speak that anyone whose worked in an office has had to deal with.

My pet peave was always "touch base".

I like the term skills. But never have worked in an office type setting.
You know:
Girls like guys with skills. Computer hacking skills, nun-chuck skills...

Also...(touch base)...I totally agree.
Quick story:
A new guy at work emailed the boss and wrote "he would get back to him soon to touch base". The boss came down to the lab later and was telling us this. He thought it was the funniest thing he had ever heard. He did not know what it meant. Now the new guy is called 'Base toucher'. He is kind of socially awkward and there is a lot of sexual inuendo used. We laugh a little bit.

There is a completely useless woman in our team at work who doesn't join in any of our meetings or team lunches because she is "touching base with _____" and "tic tacking with ____". In reality we see her out the window walking away from the building in the middle of the day.

I hate being called a "resource", as if the company has some kind of drilling equipment plunged into my body and is slowly sucking out the good stuff for redistribution.

You should ask where they are placing you on the Balance Sheet.

Short or Long Term Assets?

Liabilities?

I've always hated companies that don't have employees -- they have associates. It feels very mafia-esque.

Or managers that use the word my when referring to people under him. ie: "This is my payroll person" "This is my grunt team." Um, excuse me, you don't own them or me. We all work for the same company. "Our" is much more PC to me.
