Gifts from Montreal
Soo,
Heading to Montreal next week for work - was thinking about picking up some gifts for a few of the females I associate with
Anything "Montreal Specific" that would make a good gift? For a girl... And nothing to do with the Canadians

How about a big ol' slab of Montreal smoked meat?
...or a sugar pie...

A bottle of Sortilege? Its a liqueur made from maple syrup, very unique to Quebec.
Then you have an excuse to get her liquored up too

I'll be sure to get some of that - not to take back though

I thought of another suggestion. My personal favourite thing about Montreal is the food. You could probably take a trip down to Atwater market and buy basket with a bunch of nice cheese, wines, deli meats, breads and that sort of thing. And you can get the Sortilege at the SAQ there too, btw.

Yeah no problem. It'll last a week or two. I did it last year for Christmas for my mom.

With internet shopping and frequent travel to the US today, theres not as much as in years past that youd want to bring back from montreal.
The meat, cheese, and alcohol idea is a good one but make sure you get something that is unique to Quebec and that you cant buy here (this applies more to the alcohol and cheese). You could buy a big chunk of smoked meat from scwartz's and then either split it up at home and give it away in pieces. or you could have a small get together where you serve all the stuff you brought back. depends if you are bringing this back for friends or girlfriends. id recommend buying this stuff on your last day before you fly back so your not carrying it around but it smoked meat and cheese will keep ok.
my other suggestion is that theres a lot of indy designers who sell their own clothes, jewelry, and accessories. so if you know your friends tastes, you could pick up some unique one of a kind stuff.

Go with this idea. Speaking from a woman's perspective, I would not be too impressed if my significant other brought back a hunk of meat for me.
Same with the syrup idea, perhaps I could live with some cheese if it is the variety that can not be bought here.

I was thinking of suggesting this as well, but you gotta be pretty brave. I don't think I'd risk buying clothes for my girlfriend, cause odds are good I'd pick something she didn't like. If you're feeling brave enough and want to do it, go to the corner of St. Denis and Mont-Royal and start looking around there, tonnes of those types of shops in the area.

Yeah, clothes = scary, not style wise, more fitting etc.
I'll look at the neat accessories!
Good ideas everyone
