Help Buying A Suit
Hey everyone, been awhile since I started a thread, but as the topic says, it's one that can benefit others here. Alright, here's the pointers. I'm only 24, this is my second suit, but I'm looking for something more casual and stylish (I certainly ain't metro though ). I'm not really into the late 90's overbaggy and boxy look, put would prefer something that fits well. What should I be looking for when buying a suit? Are there any brands in particular that are really nice quality? I'm looking at spending around $500+/-, will be going down to PennState next week too, so perhaps looking over there for a day.
While on the same thread, are there any super clothing deals down there I should keep an eye out for?
Help appreciated.

two words:
French Cuffs
I love mine, it adds that "je ne sais quoi" about the suit.
I have a plain black suit, I wear a grad pin on the lapel, have cuff links for the shirt which match my watch and grad ring. If you can get a tie that ties (pardon the pun, well not really I love puns) your accessories together with the suit you're doing well.
Ask the folks in at the taylor's and they'll help you out.
Pick up GQ or even Maxim they generally have good tips about how to dress formally.

PM me and I can get you in touch with a tailor that can get you a Boss/Canali quality cut and fabric, custom made and fitted for you around the price you're looking for. He's in town this coming week and only comes back once every 3 months or so.

If you are a skinnier guy, try looking in a Mexx store if you have one. They have the European styled fitted suits that aren't boxy like you said. I got a complete suit there for only $300 and it doesn't look half bad.

At the flagship Bay locations they have Ben Sherman suits which are of decent quality, younger styling, and relatively affordable (<$600).

You'll look 10 times better in a suit than wearing any other clothing! Hot girls come up and talk to me out of the blue a lot more when I'm in a suit

If youre in TO, http://www.toms-place.com/ is a good place. Edit: as bad as their website is, the shop is great.

MEXX all the way. And you don't have to be skinny. I am not, but you can't have a huge belly!

Lose the French Cuffs
Button-down shirts built for jewelry may make you feel like a moneyed stud, but they make you look like a 12-year-old.

If you're lucky, you can find Ben Sherman suits at Winners for <$150.

I have e-mailed him to ask if he knows anyone in Toronto for you. I'm not sure if he ever goes there, but there is a chance. It's too bad it will not be in time for your needs.
I seriously recommend checking out some tailors downtown to see what they have available. NOTHING you buy in a mall will compare to a tailored suit, period.

Zara. Great fits and styles for about $300-400. Better quality then Mexx where you likely won't get 100% wool.

Thanks a lot! Hopefully there is something I can check out. I also have a wedding towards the end of the month where this would come in handy. I've heard of Maxwell's, but they take about 2 months to ship (and look like some really nice Work suits), but something more form fitting (not tight though), would be nice. I appreciate it!

I've heard of Zara, I've checked their site and things don't look bad at all so perhaps I'll take a ride to the Eaton's Centre and check it out sometime soon if I can't find a taylor.
