Thrashers make a Tuesday Afternoon deal with the Jets...

For the second time in about a week, the Atlanta Thrashers made a deal with the Winnipeg Jets. The deal breaks down to the following:

To Winnipeg:

2009 4th
Dustin Byfgulien
Toby Petersen
Tom Kostopoulous

To Atlanta:

Scott Walker
Todd Marchant
6.4 M Cash for this season

GM Sutaria had the following to say:

"We are very excited to add both Scott and Todd to our team. We are trying to win this year and adding both those players gives us more depth up front. We gave up a 1st in 2009 and a good prospect in Byfgulien but to add depth in this league you have to give up some good assets. Toby and Tom were caught in a numbers game and we wish them all the best in Winnipeg."

Well not quite as bad as my Smid for Sarich deal...but I think Atlanta makes out very well in this trade.

Yeah not a great deal but Dustin Byfgulien and the 2009 first are the keys in the deal for the Jets. We could easy find ourselves with the first overall pick 2 years in a row and with Mr. Taveras getting ready for superstar status we need to collect some picks.

For the record, it is killing me trying to make deals for picks and prospects.

Yeah, not to pile on but this is a land slide win for the Thrashers IMO. Cash to cover the pick ups to boot.

I was actually *thinking* of making some sort of offer to the Jets that would have involved Svatos for those two guys... was undecided but probably would have been a better return for them.
