Wow, talk about a way to make a bad thing worse. The guy is dead, and they charge people who knew him (assumption) with assault. That sucks.

that might be the dumbest thing i have ever read. like its their fault he drove home drunk. i hate these stories where other people are held responsible for someone elses actions just because they are drunk.

They charged them with assault because he tried to drive home because he was angry with them?

Whatever, this is crap. The guy could have just had a good laugh and slept it off, obviously he had a place to crash for the night and he chose not to use it.

Let me repeat that, because its important and I'll elaborate.

He had a place to sleep for the evening to overcome his alcohol-induced state, this is evidenced by that fact that he passed out somewhere, he could have stayed there. Instead, he woke up, was upset that he had been graffitied, which we all know is fair game if the person passes out with their shoes on, and attempted to drive home. This choice was seemingly made independantly and of his own free will. He could have just gone right back to sleep and been pissed off the next day or gotten them back later.

Not their fault.

Tough Balls.

balls....

Not to say the charges are right, but permanent marker? Seriously... if you're going to write on your friends, do NOT use permanent marker.

No, that's correct, you should use a branding iron instead.

You guys think writing stuff on people is bad? Big deal! I'd have preferred that to being set on fire, which is what happened to me the first time I got smashed.

When I was in high school/first couple years of college, we had a rule regarding messing with somebody who was blacked out from drinking-

Do they have their shoes on or not? If not, they are sleeping. Doesn't matter where they are, if the shoes are off, leave them alone. They are in bed. If the shoes are on, however, they are fair game.

It was a pretty good system actually- a surprisingly good indicator of the severity of the intoxication.

And FireFly- permanent marker is the whole concept. It ain't coming off for a few days. Damn, I had my eyebrows shaved off one time, and that didn't come close to the treatment others received. You were lucky if you got permanent marker!

I got tagged in this photo on Facebook a while back (don't have long hair anymore). I definitely had this coming as earlier in the night I was talking smack about people passing out early. Lo and behold!

Yup, those are the rules. If you want to get left alone, make sure them shoes are off.

I remember at one party a guy passed out in the bathtub with his shoes on....somebody then incidentally turned on the water.....

well, i've been fortunate enough to never have been chiefed before...but man did we ever get this one girl in our class good. she got right loaded, so of course we do the customary writing on the face. she had to work the next day as well, but that's not the best part. my bud's little brother...grade 7 i think...was tanked as well (now who would give somebody that young that much booze? ) anyways, we convinced him to go and lay down with passed out girl, and took a bunch of pictures. she woke up the next morning and we told her she got with a 12 year old. the worst part is that she didn't even seem fazed by it...said something along the lines of oh at least i got some... ah good times good times

OK, this is the first I've ever heard of this rule about shoes.

Who (besides Amercians) wears shoes in the house? If I go to a house party- I take my shoes off at the door.

If I go to a nice house party then me too. But if you go to a high-school or college party usually there are alot of people and the party is usually half indoors and half outdoors, so you keep your shoes on.

Plus, sometimes things have a tendency to go missing, so if you're particularly attached to your shoes then go right ahead and take them off....

I remember one house party when I was in high school, we were having this huge party at one guy's house and he had the hot tub open. If it was full some people would just sit around it and put their feet in the water and chill out. Then his parents got home, they tried to get rid of everybody but nobody listened to them so they called the cops. We bailed so fast that my buddy lost his shoes and he was driving around all night barefoot with wet feet......

Yeah; it's an odd phenomenon. Obviously not all Americans; and it happens more in the southern states where they don't see snow, but I've had people laugh at me for taking of the shoes when I walked in the door.

The one thing that makes a bit more sense with you guys with the "shoes
rule is the age difference. When I was in my teens and early 20's, you smoked inside the house. Sometimes you would go outside if you were smoking pot. But that's about it.

Our rules had more to do with who passed out first; and also where they passed out. If somebody was in a bed; they had better be the first one passed out.
