Default Anybody looking for a Chef?

Or know someone looking for a Chef? I don't have any connections in the Calgary area so I am at a real loss on this one.

I have a younger sibling (20 years old in December) who will be moving to Calgary in a few weeks. He has his certificate from the Vancouver Culinary Institute and has worked in pubs/restaraunts the past year. He has a great passion for cooking and is very willing to learn.

I am a little worried about him finding employment in Calgary and was wondering if any of you guys had some tips in restaraunts to look for?

Good stories? Bad stories? Good leads?

Anything at all in terms of information would be greatly appreciated. I really would consider this a personal favour. I don't want him going there and having trouble or getting jerked around.

Thanks,

WCE

Don't let him work at Willow Park Golf and Country Club. The head chef there is a major dick and so are most of the members.

I would suggest one of the major hotels downtown (hyatt, palliser) or a place like Catch or Muriettas.

Please tell him to work at Governors pub. Its the local pub in my neighborhood and I love going there but the food is terrible. A few of the waitresses actaully ask us all the time if we know anyone who could be a cook there. Im sure there are better places to work, but if your son has any skill I bet he could become the head chef there easily. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tips!

Trying to find him a situation where he can learn from a person/establishment with a good reputation.

That's in a perfect world, but I hope at least to be able to steer him away from any places that are notoriously poor to work for.

Thanks again.

We had an event this past weekend catered by A Splendid Affair. The chef behind the company has his CCC designation (the highest possible designation in culinary circles). They did an amazing job and the food was unbelievable. I am a foody and, if I was 20 years younger adn looking for a start in the biz, that's where I'd go.
