Not really much of a surprise really. I think it is pretty much a fact that the Oilers are slightly more popular in Alberta than the Flames are. It goes back to when the Oilers had the greatest player of all time playing for them, and they had a dynasty. The Flames have always been the underdog in that way and have to fight for every ounce of respect, whereas the Oilers can live off their past. Calgary is also at a disadvantage because compared to other Canadian cities, it likely has a higher proportion of it's population not originally from Calgary.

The Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver numbers are pretty much what should be expected too, given their market sizes. The Ottawa stat is slightly surprising, but I also imagine that the 2% difference between Ottawa and Calgary is probably smaller that the actual margin of error for such a survey.
