Default Hostage situation in downtown Edmonton

Quote:
A man with a beef against the Workers Compensation Board is holding as many as nine people at gunpoint in the WCB building in downtown Edmonton.

The man, armed with a high power hunting rifle, fired a shot in the lobby of the building on 107 Street north of 99 Avenue. No one was injured by the man who made his way to a conference room on the upper floor of the eight story building.

From the stories of the scam artists that she has to see and the letters and phone calls she has gotten from people who are trying to scam, I am not surprised at this.

To think, she gets the top award for academics in Edmonton and decides to be come a physio therapist only to find out the job market blows and the pay sucks so now she is going back and becoming a doctor.

Just got a text back from her, she works at a different location for WCB.

I thought everyone in Edmonton was a hostage...? It was the only way to get permanent residents..

Bad day to be a hostage taker. SWAT and every police officer was on high alert this morning as they escorted George Bush to the airport (it was quite a police convoy)

I used to work at WCB, and agree with people trying to scam the system, but at the same time it is tough to watch what the therapists put people through. If a fat out of shape person dislocates a shoulder or something, the therapists treat them like they are on the biggest losers. and have them riding bikes and doing treadmills, stuff that has nothing to do with a shoulder injury. If the worker doesn't do it they get no compensation pay.
Being a case worker would be a tough job, weeding out the frauds from the legit cases.

I work for WCB in Calgary as a case manager. Things are pretty tense here. We have media outside already. Updates are saying everyone is still safe.

I curious as to what your cousin was expecting? When did she graduate? My wife is a physio and the pay is great and unless things have changed in the last year, there is always positions available throughout the province.

FYI.

Edmonton police have set up a special phone hot line at 780-421-3550 for those who have concerns about family members or loved ones who work inside the WCB building.

I'm thinking it's after he let one of them go free, Initial reports stated there were 9 hostages when this all began.

Why was the first thought that came into my head an image of someone standing with a pair of scissors?
