Default Start a Stéphane Dion (Liberal Leader) resignation watch?

3 by-election losses in Quebec! NDP, CP and BQ each pick off one seat!

The Star
But it is the creaky wheels of the campaign in the Liberal fortress of Outremont that should really send alarms bells ringing throughout the party.

The NDP won a seat in Quebec?!?!

As an NDP supporter, #1 - Woo!, #2 - How the heck did that happen?!?!?

As for Dion, I don't think he individually should be blamed for these ridings - from the little I know from the papers, there was a lot of local issues that had far more impact than the leaders of the respective parties. But I have questioned Dion's ability to ignite a fire in the Liberal membership either in Quebec or across the nation. His resignation would be the best thing for the Liberal party.

Umm, they havent lost anything yet. The by-elections are Monday. The polls have the Liberals trailing in all three ridings, of which they evidently only held one. The other two were BQ ridings.

if only. Dion is a tool, and if it's between him and Harper for the next election i'll have to refrain from voting yet again. i just want someone half decent to take the Liberal helm, then maybe i'll get enough motivation to register and vote

But anyone half decent at the CP helm is a no-go?

Strange.

well generally i disagree with most of the conservative stances on things, so if a candidate came along who was half decent in my mind then he probably wouldn't be conservative

As far as I'm concerned Dion is a terrible leader with very little charisma and he can't sell the few ideas that he does have. He's shrill and unorganized and benefited from one of the most bizarre leadership races that I've ever seen. Not that any of the fore runners were much better.

The Liberal's are going through what the Conservatives went through after the Mulroney era, they have a leader that can't drive a party.

Frankly I really want to see Dion on the election trail for the PM's office, and I want to see a Dion vs Harper debate because Frankly Dion would get waxed by the other candidates.

Dion is nothing short of a daisy cutter bomb dropped in the middle of the Liberal party.

I get the feeling that the Canadian populace feels that a Conservative minority is just right for Canada...that said, they'd probably be happier with a Liberal minority if they could get a decent leader at the helm. I'd love for the Liberals to lose Outremont (nice area btw), to give them another kick in the pants (while they are down). Selecting Dion was the worst mistake of a party who could not agree between two polar but strong leadership candidates so they voted in the least offensive (and also most impotent) third one.
