Default what does this error message mean?

So I sent out what I thought was a very important email to a prospective employer and was quite agitated that they didnt even have the courtesy to confirm reciept, never mind respond.

Anyhow, I woke up this morning to this error message, which might explain why they didnt reply, although I have no idea what the message means as I have never seen it before and it seems no other emails I sent out had a trouble.

Failed MX lookup; try again later

Any idea?

your domain doesn't have an MX record set up (or set up properly). Contact your service provider or whoever is hosting your public DNS and ensure that this is done, then test again.

More probably, you mistyped the domain name of the company you were sending to (the part after the @ sign in the address, bolded here as an example: hr@exampledomain.com).

The MX lookup error means that your email provider was unable to find an email server for the address you provided - this means either the company doesn't have an email server (unlikely one would think), the company's email server doesn't have the correct public address so other email servers can find it (also unlikely) or you sent the message to an invalid address (by far the most likely). So check your spelling first.

If you are comfortable, post your sending domain (e.g. me.com), and the employer's domain (e.g. employer.com). Then someone here can check to be sure both have their DNS set up correctly.

i hear you, but not only had i plenty of correspondence with the person earlier, but it was simply a reply to message. the address had to be correct, right?

odd case, never seen that type of error.

thanks for all your help though.
