I have always been a big fan of Theatre Junction and right now they have a visiting production of 'Sizwe Banzi is Dead' by Peter Brook that is simply awesome! It is a re-production of the ground breaking 1972 classic that made Peter Brook famous and anyone looking for a great night out or a good suggestion for a date, this is it!
It is produced in french, which intimidates a lot of people i think, but they project english surtitles above the stage and a lot of it transcends words....
It starts slow and lures you in, but the final scene brings it all together and it really rewards you for your patience.
You have to book NOW though, they are only in town for 3 more days (This Thursday (Sept 13), Friday (14), and Saturday (15)).
The first show was a near sellout and i think Thursday was too but i was disappointed to see a lot of tickets left on Friday and Saturday. It is RARE that this quality of world class theatre comes to Calgary (read the other cities this play has visited on the website!) and people should really step-up and support it so that we get more of it!!
