QB helmets- Green Sticker?

Any idea why the helmets of ALL NFL QB's have green stickers on the middle back????

Every quarterback has a wireless head-set in their helmet, so they can talk to their offensive coordinator. The Green sticker shows refs and players that the quarterback, and only the quarterback, can talk to the offensive coordinator.

Also, a quarterback can talk to the offensive coordinator until there are fifteen seconds left on the play clock.

i was wondering about that. very interesting. i'm assuming this is the first year for this...but the technology has been there for quite a while.

edit: guess the nfl has had communications with players for a while now, just limiting it to 1 player now.

Im assuming its some type of captaincy thing, but not sure

Roger Goddell wanted to empathasize team captians in the league. All teams had to desigante an offensive and defensive captain. Maybe a speacil teams captain as well. I noticed the kicker for the Texans had the "C" on his jersey.

I find the "C's" distracting, but nice that we are finally acknowledging that role and making it more prominent.

The stars show how long the player has been with the team. To quote Uni watch (a great blog, also seen on ESPN Page 2)

That's because team captains this year will be wearing a special captain's patch on the upper-right chest area (as you can sort of see here). The patches will be color-coordinated to match each jersey, and the gold star underneath the "C" marks the number of years that the player has been a captain under the league's new captaincy initiative.

How big a change is this? This big: To Uni Watch's knowledge, only three NFL teams in the past 50 years have worn captains' designations -- the 1994 Patriots, the 1992 Chargers, and the 1983 Cowboys. And Uni Watch wishes it had stayed that way. For starters, real estate on NFL jerseys is already in short supply, what with the disappearing sleeves, the massive NFL Equipment logo, the increasing use of chest wordmarks, and so on. Adding another element to the mix is gonna make for some seriously crowded jerseys -- especially for teams that already wear other jersey patches.

On a related note, I think the "C" on Varitek's jersey is dumb. If it's part of the league regulations that someone has to be designated as a captain (hockey and now, football) fine, but with Varitek, it's goofy.
