Legal Help: On what grounds can the landlord-Tennant agreement be broken?

The place we've moved into for school this year is just not working out. Our landlords are doing a shoty job repairing what we've discovered is broken, and we want to move out into a new place. Problem is, we (one of my roommates) signed an eight month lease on this place. Can we just break the lease citing incompetent landlords? I understand this is vague information at best, but any help is appreciated. If it makes a difference, which I believe it slightly does, this is in BC. Thanks CP!
