The rest of the article was rather complementary and because I love Top Gear, I will let it slide. This time.

I thought it was funny. In the end I thought he painted a pretty good picture, though I doubt Dodge will agree with that.
I only get to see this show on YouTube though -- does anyone know if it is actually on regular cable-coming-out-of-the-wall television in Calgary?

Top Gear is on BBC Canada. Youtube or torrents is much easier.

Jeremy Clarkson is a host on BBC's Top Gear. It's a show where they review cars. I record it on my PVR as it is an excellent show.

Meh... loses points because he's a nobody but gains some because of creativity (doesnt refer to "Canada being cold", hockey or eh?).

Nice of you to actually read the article, which opens up with that paragraph HOZ quoted, but actually says some really nice things about Canada in the rest of it.

From Wikipedia:
"Although closely associated with motoring, Clarkson has appeared on and hosted a number of shows on other topics. For three years Clarkson had his own chat show, Clarkson, on which he was most noted for offending the Welsh by placing a 3D plastic map of Wales into a microwave oven and switching it on. He later defended this by saying "I put Wales in there because Scotland wouldn't fit". Similarly, he once removed the USA from a map and renamed the resultant space the 'South Canada Sea'."

Clarkson's not some nobody. He's the most influential English language motoring journalist and probably one of the most influential writers/tv personalities in the UK and abroad with the millions of males who watch Top Gear!
And if you guys read it, it's not even a swipe at Canada, most of the article is basically in praise of Ontario's wildnerness and a typical Jeremy scathing vomit upon the Dodge Grand Caravan. He's also mentioned Calgary in his column before (as a place that consistently ranks on those #1 places in the world lists, but where while the chances of being stabbed or blown up is low - the chances of dying of boredom is high)
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/com...cle1682382.ece
There was one other article years back where Canada was mentioned (as a place where you would never want take a vacation - ironically, he just took a vacation in Ontario a few weeks ago). Also, the last episode of Top Gear - the Polar Special was a race (Toyota truck vs. dog sled) from Resolute, Nunavut to the 1996 location of the North Pole. They filmed in front of a CO-OP, James May gave Jeremy a Mr. Big chocolate bar "here, that one says BIG"...and they made Gin & Tonic while driving on the Arctic ice sheet with Canada Dry. Jeremy Clarkson also shotgunned a tin of Canadian SPAM at the North Pole.

Clarkson is awesome! He takes shots at everyone. But when he does, he does with a sense of humour, and makes you laugh.
If you watch at least one top gear episode, you will understand that this is just how he is.

Just because you don't know the guy, doesn't mean he's a nobody.

Great read, especially if you imagine Jeremy's voice narrating the story.
I still love the piece on Top Gear where he is in a Land Rover going cross-terrain against a main battle tank.

Jeremy Clarkson a nobody! Hah! I don't blame anyone for not having heard of Clarkson before but over here in Blighty he is a legend. His words can are utterly powerful and he presents one of the most watched TV shows in the entire world. Top Gear is shown in over 100 countries. He has such power in the industry that he can make or break a cars sales figures with a review. He is also a genius - well in my eyes. Clever, witty and brutally honest. If you don't watch Top Gear then you may think he was taking a dig at you but he wasn't and if you do watch Top Gear then you know all about what he is like. He has complained about nearly everything in the world so far including himself so don't be offended. He only really dislikes slow cars, save the planet type stuff and losing.
For all those who have never seen an episode, please please try to watch one. Youtube have them or you can download them. If you are into cars or just want to be entertained please give it a go, you will not be disappointed. Try to get the episodes where they have Top Gear Challenges or the Races. Total classics especially when they fly drive across the USA and get stoned by rednecks.
"As recipes go, this is right up there with a plate of pork sausages and strawberry ice cream served in a puddle of tepid Greek urine." - You don't get statements like from your average journalist.
JC is a legend and he actually holidays in Canada.

Have you seen the one where he is in a Lotus Elise (i think) against the Apache helicopter trying to get a heat-seeking lock on? That one was pretty good too. No where near as much fun as the challenge where they have to make boats out of cars though.

Or the tractor challenge, or when they try to kill the Hilux. One of the best ones is when they come to america and drive from Miami to New Orleans.
