Default Embattled U.S. Attorney General Resigns

Quote:
Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, whose tenure has been marred by controversy and accusations of perjury before Congress, has resigned. He is expected to announce the decision to reporters at 10:30 Eastern time this morning in Washington.
Mr. Gonzales, who had rebuffed calls for his resignation for months, submitted his to President Bush by telephone on Friday, a senior administration official said.

About time. You can only lie and then "forget" about it so many times.

Not that I expect his replacement to be much better. Bush has proven to have a tin ear for politics in his final days in office. Look for a newly minted ideologue with the same kind of resume to take Gonzales' place in my opinion.

What's more interesting is that the ranks of "Bush loyalists" have started to look pretty thin. Does Colin Powell look like a genius now or what?

Colin Powell - that is a name that hasn't had much press lately.

Has his name been mentioned in any '08 bids?

He'd look more like a genius if he'd quit before making the pitch for the war to the UN... but I guess he was in a tight spot.
