Interesting story on the best films that will never come to a theatre near you.

Kind of a gimmicky title, seeing as I saw both High Fidelity and Ronin in the theatre, in Red Deer.
Howeverm I like Turan, and there is always a need for books like this. Wouldn't pay $39 for it, but I'd flip through it at Chapters and take a few notes.
Wait, is that as bad as d/l'ing music?
Some movies I've seen that fit this description (and didn't come to the theatre in Red Deer):
Donnie Darko
The Shape Of Things
25th Hour
American Splendor
Love Liza
Owning Mahowney

most of those films you can easily see at the globe or uptown ( which are conveniently located across the street from each other ).
There are some AMAZINGLY great things that can be seen at the non chain theatres in Calgary, yet for some reason most people tend to ignore them or cast them of as art-theatres.
btw, I thought this topic was going to be about things WE,as posters, havent seen. The best movie out there ive never seen would probably be Taxi Driver....which all
my friends rave about, but i just havent got a chance to watch.
People tell me Star Wars is great too, but Im not about to find out.

I loved Spirited Away... it completely freaked out my girlfriend, though.
And the Theremin documentary he mentions is really wonderful. A great story, really a love story between two characters sixty or so years.
I'd actually be tempted to get that book. Too bad it wasn't available in website format.

Useless But Sort of Interesting and Funny Trivia: singer Neil Diamond auditioned for the part of Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver. Luckily Robert De Niro went for it as well.

I didn't realize that Ronin wasn't big in the theatres, I own the movie now. Great movie.
As for movies I haven't seen that are supposedly good and I am sure are.
This list is embarrassing: StarWars, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, Shrek 1 and 2....basically if you named a ridiculously big blockbuster movie I haven't seen it. Oh and the kicker is when I was in University I took an American History and film class which included movies like Birth of Naiton (first feature film, it was a silent movie)

Steven Speilburg's 1987 Empire of the Sun. John Malkovitch, Christian Bale, Joe Pantoliano. Superb to the last. Grown men cheer and cry watching this one.

Office Space was a movie that did next to no business at the box office, but has a huge following on home video.
