Godsmack @ the Jubilee
Anyone else here go last night? My first godsmack show and man do those guys ever have a good stage presence and so much energy. What a great show. Probably the best show i've seen for getting the crowd involved and they looked like they were having a lot of fun playing up there. I didn't know what to expect out of this show, but they blew every notion I had away. Just amazing.

Awesome show they put on, I was really mad I couldn't go.
What did you think of the drum solo? (er, duo)

drum duo/solo was amazing. I didn't know if they were going to do it or not, I had seen it on their dvd before, but it had kind of slipped my mind. Then when the main drum set was moved over to the side I thought, no way their going to do it and the stage behind them opened up and out came the second set of drums with sully on them. they spent a good 15 minutes on them and sully on the bongos of course. it's a great part of their show and definitely kind of unique. their real good entertainers and got the crowd going.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.
At times I'm amazed Godsmack is not more popular then they are. I guess they may be too heavy for a lot of people, but they really are one of the premier Live acts in music today

They opened for Metallica a couple years ago, and almost matched them for intensity. Godsmack is a very underrated live band, and really put some power behind their performances.
The knock against them is that they have a formulaic sound, which IMO isn't true. However, to the non-Godsmack hard rock fans, it all sounds the same to them. This is why we've seen Sully put some different sounds into his work the last couple of years, including dual drums, the bongos, and even the harmonica.

yeah, they played shine down last night with the harmonica. great to see that kind of stuff in there.
yuu can tell that they want the crowd to have a good time. they want to see everyone standing and dancing/moshing...although the jubilee isn't the best place to mosh.
About 3/4 through the set sully said they were in edmonton last night but he thinks that the calgary crowd could be the best/loudest on the candian tour...but there was one problem...he wanted to see everyone standing up. I'm sure he probably does that at every show, but he was on a mission to get everyone standing and singing. He said "if you're not standing you either too drunk to stand, or youre too old for this concert. with some explitives thrown in. There was one group of "older" people in one of the balconies in the first two rows who wouldn't stand up and I think it pissed him off that he couldn't get these people to stand up.
He had the crowd sing various parts of songs like keep away etc. and by his reaction on stage it seemed like he thought we were pretty loud. very cool when everyone in the building sings at the same time. great show.

Shannon Larkin is one of my favorite drummers of all time. I was a fan in the Wrathchild America days, Souls at Zero and even Ugly Kid Joe. Huge Amen fan, got to play some shows with them and hung out with Larkin a bit.
When I heard he joined up with Godsmack years ago I was beyond disappointed, they're pretty much the Nickelback of metal. If you can even call them metal.
I guess it's cool that the guy is making money, I just wish he found a better band.
Glad you guys liked the show, Larkin is incredible to watch, no matter who he's working for.

Cool, I'm kinda surprised to see that someone knows who Larkin is as well as where he came from. Gotta go throw on some Climbin' The Walls this morning! And yes, Godsmack is average at best, but hey, if that's people's tastes then cool on them.
