but they'll tell you it's "unique". Yeah, then the poor kid will have peple butchering his impossible to pronounce name the rest of his life. I actually had nurses congratulate us for giving our son a normal name last year.

I think its because of these goofball celebrities naming their kids things like Phinneus, Rumer and Apple. I mean seriously, APPLE? I want to punch Paltrow in the face for naming her kid Apple.
Though I bet Steve Jobs strongly approves of the name.

In this case the kid's name would have a couple of pronounciation options ... "at" and "ampersand". Not that that justifies doing such a dumba$$ thing to the kid. I guess turning it into Sandy wouldn't be too bad.
Some creative names are pretty funny though. I still laugh at Frank Zappa calling his daughter Moon Unit. I think that's hilarious.

'&' is an ampersand, '@' is simply at. But, I suppose the kid could be called "shift 2".

That'd be in North America. In Europe, the kid would be called Alt Gr Slash.
