Default Cigar Stores/Advice?

Hi everyone, with the pending birth of my first child, I am looking for advice on where in Calgary to purchase decent cigars for the traditional (and unhealthy!) tradition to celebrate the birth.

What would be a good place to go? Obviously this is a monumentous occastion so I am not against spending "a bit" of money ... not looking to go bargain basement but also not looking to spend piles of cash.

What kinds of things should I be looking for? Questions I should be asking? When should I go? The due date is December 2, so I would like the cigars to be as fresh as possible.

Thanks.

I'm not sure where Cavendish & Moore is now, they used to be in Penny Lane, but they would be a place to check out if they have a new location. I'd advise you to stay away from the chain stores ... United Cigar and Sheffield & Sons. Their prices aren't very good, and their stock is not as fresh as it should be. Actually, Calgary lacks a good tobacconist. If I were you, I'd buy from a tobacconist I know of in Victoria called Old Morris. You can shop online or call them toll free.

Website: http://www.oldmorris.com/

I've ordered from them before and their products are very fresh, and due to BC having way lower provincial taxes on tobacco products, it's actually cheaper to have stuff shipped from Victoria than it is to buy the same thing in Alberta.

Congrats!

I wouldn't even bother buying them in Calgary, buy a box online and you'll save a lot of cash.

I've had nothing but good things to say about these two websites. Free shipping for both:
http://www.cigars-of-cuba.com/default.asp
http://www.cigarsofhabanos.com/indx.asp

The first website took less than a week for my cigars to arrive, the second took 2-3 weeks. The cigars are packaged with a humi-pack so they will be "fresh" when they arrive. Keep in mind that fine cigars age like fine wine, so older cigars are worth more.

I'd go all out for a child birth and buy a box of Cohibas. You can also save one of the cigars you buy and give it to your kid on his 18th birthday.
