Harpers Cabinet Shuffle
I am surprised that this was not here sooner! Harper shuffled his cabinet yesterday, with most thoughts leaning toward two reasons for this:
1. To move O'Connor out of Defence
2. To ready themselves for an election should one be forced in the nearer future.
Thoughts?

The doesnt matter much with the Exception of new Foreign Affairs Minister. I thought Strahl did a fantastic job trying to crack one of the most corrupt Agricultre beaurocracies in the world. I guess that is what you get when CTV and the Globe start pouncing on a Minister who might actually help grain industry in this country.
All hail Canada, land where you cant sell your goods where you want cause some judge says that a corrupt beaurocracy knows better than the free market buisness owner.
Its unfortunate Strahl had to take one for the team. Its probably the reason Harper is still alive, he doesnt live by the "stand by your person" mentality of previous right centre parties and he bends because of precieved public pressure.

I don't want to turn this into a wheat board argument thread, but I would say its a little more than "perceived public pressure". The case went all the way to the Supreme Court for judgment...

And the Supreme Court said that Cabinet cannot make the decision.
They didn't say anything about whether the monopoly was justified or not.

Putting all partisanship aside, no one could determine whether the monopoly is justified...its a matter of opinion.

To avoid the continuing CWB thread hijack, go to http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=46107
About the Cabinet Shuffle, I'm of a couple different minds.

I like Prentice getting a promotion and being Industry Minister, but he'll be a loss in Indian Affairs. I don't really think that Strahl's blunt approach will be a good fit there. Ritz, being from Saskatchewan, should hopefully be a good fit with Agriculture. MacKay should be interesting in Defence... we'll see how fast he learns.

Ritz is a free market guy too. He'll fight tooth and nail against the Wheat Board.

I'm surpised and not surpised about the movement of O'conner out of defense, as far as I'm concerned he was the best defense minister that Canada's had in a long time, but he was burned on his poor communication skills, and the torture alegations.
Hopefully McKay will continue to push for additional funding and new equipment.

I like McKay in this position. I think that this shows a new focus for the Canadian government, and that's military spending and defense. He's powerful within the party, well-spoken, well groomed, (yes I did say that, you say it about women, I can say it about men) and he seems like a really nice guy. I like this move.

This always pisses me off, just when things start to look like there getting somewhere with the First Nations (fulfilling broken promises) the Canadian Government goes and changes the Indian Affairs Minister.
